For a long time, the only way to measure "Ease of Use" was to run UX tests. Now, in token-based governance, we can draw from Social Choice Theory and apply axiomatic proofs. It's a new route to validate voting designs and similar token-based mechanisms, and make sure participants know how to best achieve their goals. At a recent internal event, we had a great conversation about the balance between owned storytelling on our platforms, and earned media. The dialogue started with a simple question -- when should you consider one over the other, and why? Owned offers a controlled environment to craft and refine your narrative. Take our recent quantum partnership story as an example. This is a super complex topic with many difficult-to-grasp concepts. It involves work with a partner, who is equally invested in getting these complicated details right. It is the kind of story that benefits from a longer runway up front to get it right, and here it is presented concisely with supporting assets and a concrete example that allows audiences to learn as they read the story.   When it comes to earned media, the dynamics shift. Here, newsworthiness and external validation play pivotal roles. The credibility and often the reach garnered through earned media often surpasses what we can achieve through owned channels alone. So as we think about news moments and engagement with influencers, we pivot our owned assets to support these efforts, rather than lead them. As is so often the case :) we have to find the right balance, the right tool for the moment. Every organization needs to have the capacity to tell its own story, and to find the right time to lead there. This is what I think of as the "voice" of the company. And, the understanding that not every piece of news should lead with that voice.

Scanning documents from your phone is really simple and easy, but many people don't know what to use or how to do it—my vet was among them! I got you! If you use a cloud storage service, like Dropbox, it probably has a scanner option, and that's your best bet. If you need something free, use Microsoft Lens. But there's one other app that has more functionality if you need fine controls for color, sizing, etc. More here: https://lnkd.in/eVtvkXjg

#LLMs are ubiquitous, but, as Meta's Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun noted in a podcast I recently listened to, they are a dead branch of #AI research. Why? Because there seems to be no way of solving their hallucination and bone-headed error problems. Because they have already been trained with all readily available data. Because they don't reason nor understand : they just spit out what they have learned. Because the larger the models get, the more compute resources they need. Like Cortical.io, Gary Marcus has been an advocate for alternative, more efficient AI paths for years. Watch his talk at a recent conference to get an alternative, insightful view on #generativeAI.

New on Runtime: C3 AI's Thomas M. Siebel sees a lot of good in the generative AI boom, but is also wary of how governments are thinking about using this technology. In recent years C3 AI was asked to build an AI decision-making application for the HR department of a branch of the U.S. military as well as an AI system that could detect "extremists" in the country, and Siebel said the company turned down both requests. "I was in a very important building with a very important person and candidly was really disturbed," he said of the second conversation. "I was like, how fast can I get out of this meeting?"
