This report by Rock Health underscores a significant fact: the Black community, with a staggering ~$1.6T in purchasing power and notable digital health adoption, is a pivotal consumer group in the healthcare sector. For instance, 78% of Black respondents have received virtual care, and 49% own or have owned a wearable device. Yet, despite significant engagement, Black consumers often report lower satisfaction with digital health solutions. This gap represents a tremendous opportunity for innovation and improvement. Placing Black individuals at the forefront of healthcare innovation is not just an option—it's a necessity. And it’s important to note that the health needs of Black Americans vary across different axes of identity, such as gender, income, ability, age, and geography. I hope this Rock Health report is a wake-up call for the healthcare industry. It’s time we prioritize the Black community in our digital health solutions, building trust and representation into the fabric of our innovations.

😁Always one of my guilty pleasures to read the Rock Health quarterly reports on venture flows in #digitalhealth. Here are a few interesting stats from the Q3 2024 Rock Health report that would add depth to your LinkedIn post: 💴 $2.4B in Venture Funding: In Q3 2024, the U.S. digital health sector logged $2.4B in funding across 110 deals, bringing the year-to-date total to $8.2B. 📉110 Deals: Deal count in Q3 fell to 110, down from 136 in Q1 and 133 in Q2, but the average deal size held steady at $22M, showing sustained investor confidence. 👉🏻 M&A Drop: Q3 2024 saw a decline in M&A activity, with only 21 mergers and acquisitions, down from 28 in Q2 and 37 in Q1. This is well below the quarterly average of 37 in 2023. 🤜 IPO and Public Market Activity: R1 RCM announced plans to go private, while Nuvo’s bankruptcy just three months after its SPAC public offering highlighted the volatility in the public markets. 🙌 Strategic Funding: Hippocratic AI raised $17M from NVIDIA Ventures after establishing a partnership with Nvidia earlier in the year to develop healthcare-focused large language models. 👉🏻 Special mention to chronic condition management company DarioHealth acquisition of Twill to expand its mental health services is a prime example. 🗣️Q3’s story is less about sheer funding volume and more about how companies are positioning themselves in the market.
