Activities and Societies: I was selected for STARS Alliance, advocating for IT diversity. I led seminars, inspired youth through robot-building, and presented at conferences. As a Tutor, I guided peers in Programming, Calculus, and Engineering. My research in VR for children with special needs was showcased at conferences. I also championed innovation by assisting women-owned businesses and competing dev competitions. As an intern, contributing to nuclear weapon projects while maintaining a Top Secret Clearance.

Throughout college, I demonstrated leadership through roles in AKA Sorority and NSBE. As a member of the Black Ink Monk poetry team, I collaborated with the Jewish community for events. I mentored peers, supported Christian students, and co-led the creation of the “Know Your Plate” game. Co-hosting the YouthSpark event and speaking at panel discussions allowed me to inspire peers and showcase my passion for technology’s positive impact.

Breaking Ground is, and continues to strive to be, New York’s largest provider of street outreach and supportive housing for the City’s chronically homeless population. Since their founding in 1990, Breaking Ground has helped over 12,000 New Yorkers overcome and avoid homelessness, with buildings in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. At Breaking Ground, they believe “it starts with home,” but beyond putting roofs over their clients’ heads, they work to build the community around them. This would not be possible without the support of sponsors and volunteers like Microsoft, who help with activities for our residents. Every year, at each of Breaking Ground’s permanent housing locations, the team host Thanksgiving dinners for residents, many of whom are formerly homeless adults with special needs. The team seeks compassionate volunteers to help Breaking Ground celebrate the holiday by staffing these dinners, and engaging with residents.

I had the distinct pleasure of leading the partnership and working alongside our Microsoft volunteers and the Breaking Ground team this holiday season. Our Microsoft volunteer team participated at Breaking Ground’s Manhattan location, Thanksgiving Dinner at The Lee .

If you didn’t get a chance to participate in our first ever Microsoft and SCIP - Selective Corporate Internship Program Diversity & Inclusion event, we hope you can relive the experience through our summary. The Selective Corporate Internship Program (SCIP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in partnership with Fortune 500 Companies and various supporters, upholding the mission to “Enlighten, Employ and Empower” diverse underprivileged students (eighth grade to MBA) for successful careers through corporate mentorship, leadership development and employment opportunities. SCIP launched it’s national program at Microsoft Corporation beating out several other contenders and their mentees are one-of-a-kind! You can find them dressed in professional business attire during the summer in our Microsoft NYC office. There are also several fundraising events throughout the year that I encourage each of you to participate in as the year progresses.

I had the distinct pleasure of leading the diversity and inclusion event and working alongside the SCIP team and our valuable Microsoft employees who eloquently shared information about their ERG and how the students could utilize D&I to improve their lives and future careers. Microsoft has 10 Inclusive behaviors and I thank each and every volunteer for exhibiting each quality but most importantly, being brave and sharing their perspective. With over 7,430 students participating with SCIP, I’m thankful Microsoft is a leader in helping to drive Diversity & Inclusion in our communities.

Our first D&I event was held, Tuesday August 14th in collaboration with SCIP founders Miguel & Monica (affectionately called M&M) and their amazingly talented students. We had very special panelist.
The students and SCIP Founders shared extremely positive feedback on our event and appreciated the welcoming environment to be transparent.

I had the distinct pleasure of leading the partnership and working alongside the CIAA Education Day team this year. We had record numbers of participation growth from previous years of CIAA Education day week with over 5,000 students participating in the full week of education day events.

Microsoft partnered with the CIAA Education team for two major events, CIAA “Finding Your Path to the Student-Athlete Experience” and the “CIAA Career Expo: Microsoft Lounge”.

Our first event was held, Tuesday February 21st in connection with the CIAA Education Day Committee, CIAA Education Day Director, Jacqueline McWilliams, CIAA Commissioner, Power 98, NCAA and many local entrepreneurs and sponsors. Our own Scott Williams, TAM and myself, participated on the panel discussion for the student athlete experience.

However, our stand-out was Holly Todd, TAM who led our breakout session and shared her impactful work with the NFL through her session: “Microsoft Devices and Solutions changing the NFL”. Holly shared information about our products and solutions, evangelized and encouraged a career in STEM and shared very cool information about our NFL/Microsoft partnership with up to 250 students.

Our second event was held, Thursday February 23rd at the Charlotte Convention Center in connection with the CIAA annual career expo. We had a great representation of Microsoft to the Colleges and Universities representing the CIAA event in Charlotte and to our local charlotte community. Our Microsoft Lounge featured, five different Xbox One experiences, Surface Studio demonstrations, Surface devices and a ton of giveaways amongst other cool items.

None of this would have been possible without our Microsoft CIAA planning committee, Microsoft Charlotte South park Retail Store and our volunteers. Support from our Microsoft Charlotte BAM employee resource group.
