National Zoning Atlas reposted this
Today, I had the pleasure of joining the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's 90-year celebration by attending the "Untangling Zoning Impacts and Promoting Equity Through Reform" presentation. The panel, featuring esteemed speakers Sara C. Bronin, Yonah Freemark, and Nolan Gray, and moderated by Morgan Malone., provided great insights into understanding #zoning laws and #land use and their impact on our lives. The event was incredibly informative, shedding light on how past and current zoning laws shape our lives and how we can leverage these impacts to design and influence future #communities and #cultures. Some takeaways for me included the importance of rethinking outdated zoning laws that no longer serve community needs and require reform to promote #equity and #inclusivity. I also learned about the efforts towards making the #legislative process more inclusive, ensuring all voices in the community are heard. The panelists highlighted a #vision of reducing car dependency by discouraging new #road #construction and enhancing #public #transportation and #walkability, which can foster better economies and more equitable communities. I was also #inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm that the speakers have towards improving people's lives, and their willingness to use their knowledge and abilities to promote a better life experience for everyone. Special thanks to City Colleges of Chicago-Harold Washington College for hosting the event and for their great hospitality.
