Our practice connects communities and is committed to the stewardship of place, people, and the environment.
About us
With our origins in Oregon, attention to craft and beauty is elemental to the ZGF culture. A deep respect for the built environment evolved from reverence for the surrounding natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape and a commitment to stewardship of the natural environment. Rather than reflecting a signature style, our work is derived from the particulars of the climate, context, and the human experience. The instinct to build community, making places where people come together for a common purpose, is central to our work. Evolving from a single office with strong regional roots to a firm with seven offices across North America and 750 staff, ZGF's national reputation was honored with the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Firm Award, recognizing the firm’s “high standards, humanistic concerns, and unique ability to capture the spirit of a place and the aspirations of its inhabitants.”

Sharron van der Meulen and Gene Sandoval share with Urban Land Institute how the newly expanded main terminal of Portland International Airport (PDX) which opens August 14th, 2024, is an important civic building designed to serve the people, deliver a positive experience, strengthen resilience, reduce impact—and represent the Pacific Northwest. https://bit.ly/4feXWir

This week, we hosted ZGF Seattle’s 37th anniversary party to honor our clients, consultants, and partners who have contributed to the firm’s success over the last three decades, as well as the impact our projects have had on the community. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to those who couldn’t be there in person—we missed you! We also celebrated several retirees who dedicated their careers to ZGF and whose legacies live on through their projects and all those impacted by them.

For years, StepStone Group worked out of pre-built offices in New York that were not designed specifically for them. Ready to take a leap, they enlisted ZGF to design a two-floor fit-out that finally reflects their culture, mission, and brand. https://bit.ly/3zQEY1i

10 years in the making, the PDX Airport expansion opens in one month!
Pardon the exclamation overload, but we have some VERY BIG NEWS!!!! The new PDX opens August 14th!!!! We’re putting the final touches on the space – ticket counters are in; artists are finishing their magic; trees have been planted (!!!); and local shops and restaurants are getting their signs up. All that’s missing is YOU! If you've got travel plans on or after August 14th, you'll be one of the first to explore everything PDX-y and new. But hey, even if you're not flying, you can still join the fun! Come hang pre-security and grab a drink, a bite, and soak in the stunning views on the mezzanine or vibe to live music by PDX musicians near the stadium seats. It’s like a mini-Portland neighborhood right inside the airport – no boarding pass required! We can’t wait to welcome you to your new PDX home.
