This is the first graduating class of WOW & BAM participants. We're proud to share that the class Valedictorian was a BAM participant, and the Salutatorian was a WOW participant! Congratulations to our very own Shawn Brown at Youth Guidance Boston! Northwestern Mutual honored nine individuals for their significant contributions to Boston and Massachusetts, and Shawn was among them! He was recognized alongside Senator Liz Miranda and Frank Farrow of Boston's Black Male Advancement and My Brother’s Keeper. Due to other commitments, Shawn couldn’t attend the event, so his son, Shawn Jr., received the award on his behalf. Congratulations again, Shawn! We are incredibly proud of you and the impactful work you do!

Youth Guidance Greater Pittsburgh implemented the Becoming A Man (BAM) program in six (6) Allegheny County schools in the 2023-2024 school year. The program was overseen by a Program Supervisor and implemented by Youth Specialists aligned with each school. The role of the Program Supervisor included the supervision of Youth Specialists, maintaining and strengthening relationships with school leadership and staff, and leading with data. The Youth Specialists role included implementing the program through student recruitment and enrollment, the implementation of the BAM curriculum, and documenting services delivered to youth. Youth Guidance Greater Pittsburgh is expanding for the 2024-2025 school year and is actively recruiting individuals to fill five (5) roles within the organization: 1 Program Supervisor & 4 Youth Specialists. Earlier this week, SkyPoint FCU had the honor of hosting a financial wellness workshop at Howard University for the Youth Guidance BAMFI Summer Program. We discussed the importance of having a financial institution relationship, savings tips like the 50/30/20 rule, and useful tools for setting up a personal budget. It was incredible speaking with these rising high school sophomores and seniors. Their energy and engagement were truly inspirational. Sharing "The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence - Becoming Lion" with such a powerful group of young men was truly a rewarding experience. The energy, enthusiasm, and potential of these young leaders left me in awe - even though I easily won the push-up contest. A big thank you to the organizers (Tiffani Powell, Christina Sessoms, Ph.D., Angela M Jones, BJ Paige) of BAMFI for creating such a transformative platform. VTMF recently spent time with some earnest young men in the Youth Guidance Becoming a Man (BAM) program—a school-based group counseling program that guides young men in grades 7-12 to learn, internalize and practice social cognitive skills. We are proud supporters of their work in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, where they address important core values including respect for womanhood, integrity, positive anger expression and more.
