YES Housing, Inc. (YES) was created in 1990 as a non-profit Community Development Corporation. The role of YES in developing affordable housing is typically that of developer / owner / manager charged with finding a financially feasible new construction or acquisition / rehabilitation development, assembling the development team (architect, contractor, manager, etc.), arranging financing, developing community relations, and establishing partnerships to benefit the development. YES Housing, Inc.'s mission is develop communities through building and revitalizing quality affordable housing, accessible social services, and bringing a dedication to being positive agents of change within these communities. YES acts as a positive agent of change by providing opportunities for a better quality of life to disadvantaged lower-income families as well as special needs and the elderly through social services provided at every development.

YES’ Healthy Living Gardens Manager, Anna Martin, comments: “We’re so appreciative of the New Holland Church of the Nazarene Youth Group from Pennsylvania that came down to ABQ last week to help with various garden projects! Thanks to James with Mission ABQ for coordinating. With the help of these great volunteers, we installed two brand new raised beds at Copper Terrace Apartments for the summer kids programming. Like at Roswell Summit Apartments, we again used the Hügelkultur method by filling the bottom of the raised beds with logs and other plant materials before adding the soil. We are also using the traditional ollas (clay jar) watering method—we buried clay jars in the beds to be filled with water so that the water can slowly percolate out from the jars over a few days to efficiently water the plant roots. We also harvested dozens of pounds of garlic at the Imperial rooftop garden that is drying and waiting to be weighed and distributed to residents. Our experience as an affordable housing developer has lead us to understand the building of more units is only one solution to the crisis of affordable housing. What must also be addressed is access to jobs, healthcare, education, and healthy food options. For a decade now we have been including social services, public transportation, on site gardens, grocery stores, and food hubs. We are strategically locating and partnering with others to make all those accessible. Our next project will be a master planned community with healthy living as its major focus. We have taken down the first 25 acres and have an option to buy 72 adjacent acres. It’s the biggest undertaking in our organization’s existence.
