For the last 10 years we have seen more and more applications adopting uncrewed aircraft or drones and adding them to their workflows to expand businesses and offer more versatility to their customers. But like in every other new technology, adoption is not uniform, and some sensors are more easily miniaturized than others. That explains why photogrammetry was an almost immediate adopter of small drones and why geophysical and geological sensors have lagged considerably over the years. https://lnkd.in/eGJZUy_q

Shining a Light Into Black Boxes: AI-infused 3D modeling of substations, pump houses, and other facilities offers utilities immediate benefit Using advanced GIS systems, utilities can create detailed infrastructure models that enable them to deliver services to residents more efficiently and safely. These models include highly granular data about the networks of lines and pipes that deliver electricity, water, and natural gas to customers. Far too often, these models are missing a critical category of data: detailed information about facilities that are key junctions in their networks, including substations, vaults, pump houses, regulator stations, pipeline junction boxes, and other locations with a dense distribution of assets. https://lnkd.in/gv6tVFBM

For the foreseeable future, the world’s economy will depend on energy. This energy comes in two primary types: “legacy” sources such as oil and gas, and “green” energy sources such as solar and wind. Increasingly, nations and energy companies are searching for, and extracting, these legacy energy sources offshore, as well as undertaking new projects to harvest wind energy offshore. Protecting both legacy and green offshore energy sources with new technologies should be a national priority https://lnkd.in/eXrvqTMq

Water utility companies are tapping into geospatial cloud computing to map their infrastructure, streamline workflows, and enhance customer services Clouds are important to the Earth’s water cycle. By gathering vapor from one region and then dropping it as rain in another, they serve as the main conduits to move water across the Earth’s surface. So, when one of the largest water and wastewater services companies in the U.S. says that it has headed to the cloud, you might be excused for the mix-up. The cloud that the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) refers to is “cloud computing” or the delivery of digital services, from data storage to software and analytics, over the Internet. https://lnkd.in/e85SyarS
