Remember when we promised that our dedicated Xpannerites would be there to innovate your construction, no matter what? Well, here’s more proof! This May we traveled to Vietnam to retrofit a 25-year-old excavator with a high-tech machine guidance unit. The team led by Olivia and consisting of Willie, Chris, Jack, James and Charlie overcame extreme weather, a language barrier and technical challenges to successfully install a MG unit that ultimately increased the productivity of the antiquated excavator by 46%! Watch the video below for a behind-the-scenes look at the team’s efforts and see how Xpanner can help integrate modern Contech with traditional sites, saving valuable time and resources. Thank you, team, for a good job well done! 💚 If you also want the Xpannerites to come reinvigorate your construction, get in touch! #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Xpanner #Earthmoving #Machinecontrol #ConstructionEquipment #Excavator

Is it hot where you are? With summer heat in full force across the globe, we thought a bit of snow might cool you off! This week, we bring you a behind-the-scenes look at a solar piling project we did with an EPC customer this past winter in Missouri… complete with Arctic winds. Enjoy! The conditions were tough.  With temps alternating between -4°F/-20°C and 35°F/2°C, the ground was either frozen solid or muddier than the nearby Mississippi River! But our steadfast Xpannerites stayed positive, soldiered on, and even had some fun in the process. The Xpanner team on video consists of Henri (CEO), David (CTO), Ryan (CFO), Owen (VP of Global Customer Success), Eddy (VP of Engineering), and members from engineering, field services, marketing, and software development (James, Aiden, Calvin, Dillon, Charlie, and Brown). The team not only ensured successful delivery but did so with innovative custom solutions that were imagined, designed, and created on-site and in-the-moment. The team braved the elements and resulting technical challenges to support our customer’s local crew successfully drive 30,000 piles, reaching peak performance of nearly 300 piles per day per machine. Although this project is now finished, these frozen and muddy fields of Missouri are part of treasured memories. We are truly grateful to have such incredible and committed people on Team Xpanner! We Xpannerites are passionate about automating solar farm construction and upping efficiency. So… whatever the weather, whatever the conditions, whatever your existing tech (or lack thereof), we’ll be there to help you succeed! #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Xpanner #Automationsolution #Piledriving #SolarFarm #SolarEnergy #Constructionsite

Highlights from Day 4 of the BuiltWorlds Paris Summit: Data and AI in construction: 📌 Although data is scarce in our sector, it is critically important. All of us must find ways to GENERATE as well as capture, process, and use data. A particularly sensitive topic is data ownership. Our friend, Aaron Anderson of Swinerton noted that as per regulations, project-related data belongs to the project owner. This sparked intense discussions during the session ultimately leading to no definitive conclusion but certainly fueling many breaktime conversations. Strategic Partnerships (with GCs and SI-backed VCs): 📌 The scale and energy in the EU are markedly different than in the US or Asia. Industry giants like VINCI, Bouygues Group, Cemex, Ferrovial, Trimble Inc., Caterpillar Inc., and Saint-Gobain along with smaller/newer players like The Haskell Company, Zacua Ventures, and Hilti Group are collaborating in joint efforts like the Construction Startup Competition. Throughout this Summit, many organizations have shown that traditional self-views are changing… e.g. Ferrovial self-identifying as “an asset management company” vs. a construction company. With such changes, GCs are rapidly expanding from conventional business areas into new spaces, often via partnerships with startups. Autodesk predicts that this trend will make the industry very dynamic over the next 50 years. Saudi Arabia is booming and wants more innovation: 📌 In the afternoon, a panel discussion featuring the Saudi Ministry of Investment addressed KSA’s regulatory amendments to attract more startups and GCs. We all need to connect with key stakeholders and startups like our partners WakeCap to accelerate entry into and growth in the Saudi market. Innovators are pushing the industry: 📌 Yesterday’s highlight was the Top 50 Global Innovators recognition ceremony. It was impressive to see the Top 50 represent a significant portion of the global construction market. Congratulations to our friends at VINCI, Bouygues, Ferrovial, Quanta Services, Inc., Kajima, Takenaka Corporation, EllisDon, Cemex, GS Futures, Bosch, Hexagon AB and others. Someday, we hope to be among you! The sun has set in Paris and on the Paris Summit! As expected from a Builtworlds event, this week has been fantastic. Thank you, Builtworlds, for inviting and including us in these great events. Until next time! #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Constructioninnovation #Xpanner #Builtworlds #ParisSummit

Day 3 of the BuiltWorlds Paris Summit is done and this time we were hosted by Bouygues Group! The day kicked off with Deputy CEO Edouard Bouygues’ excellent opening speech detailing his massive company’s vision of innovation and proactive efforts to implement it into their business. Surprises were in store after a personal introduction to Monsieur Bouygues by our friend Charles-Antoine Saltiel. After shaking hands, the Deputy CEO told us that he had been briefed about Xpanner and that he had viewed our pile driving video! The human-ness of our connection with Bouygues continues to surprise and delight us. Day 3 proceeded to an excellent Demo Day, with the win going to GScan, an Estonian startup using cosmic rays to scan everything from bridges to buildings. Their solutions impressed us greatly, so we are excited see what they get up to in the future and eager to explore potential collaborative avenues! By the way, GScan’s COO Jüri Saarma connected with us in April after Venture West. Congratulations on the win, Jüri! Here’s to exploring future collaborations. Thanks to everyone at Bouygues for a great day! We were glad to see many of our old friends and to be introduced to new people who share Xpanner’s passion for innovative Contech. Thank you to everyone we met for the valuable conversations and ideas we shared. Special thanks to Tim Aidan Halter, Charles-Antoine Saltiel, and Pierre Mustiere for generously sharing your network. #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Constructioninnovation #Xpanner #Builtworlds #ParisSummit #Bouygues #Startup

VINCI took the reins again for Day 2 of the Paris Summit. Yesterday we visited their Leonard Space where VINCI showcased their work on open innovation. We learned about how VINCI is approaching innovation from 3 angles: environment & sustainability, digital & tech (including robotics), and talent & management. VINCI, the largest construction company in the world, is a massive enterprise with 119,000 employees organized into 1,300 decentralized business units. They are serious about innovation…not just exploring but actually deploying innovations to the field! Xpanner’s key takeaways from Day 2: ❇️ Robotics is alive and well in VINCI’s world ❇️ VINCI has a clear direction to expand usage of robots in everything they do ❇️ RaaS (Robotics as a Service) is the way forward   Thank you to BuiltWorlds and VINCI for a terrific day! Special thanks to Louis COTTIN, Head of VINCI’s CATALYST program for introducing some of the startups he is incubating. We hope to actively collaborate with several of them! Thanks also to Luis Amorim of Ferrovial Construction and Aaron Anderson of Swinerton for thoughtful conversations, valuable advice, and enjoyable company through the sessions. Coming up next…Day 3 of the Paris Summit! #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Constructioninnovation #Robotics #Xpanner #Builtworlds #ParisSummit #VINCI

Bonjour from Paris! The Xpanner team is at the BuiltWorlds Paris Summit and Day 1 already surpassed all our expectations. Yesterday VINCI graciously showed us around two of their projects. First, we saw Line 15 West of the Paris Metro, an expansion project that VINCI has been constructing. Line 15 will be France’s longest metro line (75km!). During this project, VINCI will construct the west section comprising of 14 km of tunnels and 5 new underground stations using low energy impact materials. When completed Line 15 West will enable 50% faster commuting times for Parisians. VINCI’s life-size prototype of an operating Metro station was also really impressive. Thank you’s go to Julie Saubebelle and Marc Hasenohr of VINCI for being excellent guides on this tour. Second, we visited L’Archipel, VINCI’s HQ in La Défense. This building is beautiful, efficient, and fit-for-purpose. From its stunning Sky Deck, we could see all of VINCI’s construction projects in La Défense. We can only imagine the pride that members of VINCI must feel each time they take in that sight. One day, we hope Xpanner’s team members can feel a similar pride when we look at what we have created together. Thank you’s go to Fabrice Mroz, Alain Belleface, and Philippe Richard for sharing their experiences and pride with us. We closed Day 1 with a view of the sunset over the Seine. #ConTech #Constructiontechnology #Constructioninnovation #Xpanner #Builtworlds #ParisSummit #VINCI #Constructionsite

That’s a wrap from Munich! We spent 3 days here at Intersolar 2024, meeting a steady stream of people from all over Europe and experiencing the magnitude of the solar industry in this market. Here are a few of our learnings: 1) The solar industry in Europe is massive. If the size of this exhibition and the number of attendees is any indication, the solar industry is alive and well here. 2) While many established developers, EPCs, and GCs are active in the market, there are countless numbers of relatively new players working to seize opportunities. Resulting dynamics for these new players include a near-universal need for ways to bridge their lack of expertise/experience. They need solutions to keep them from falling into the abyss of poor productivity, high costs, and financial losses. 3) Many new players (and quite a few of the incumbent large players) have not seriously considered the use of digital and GPS technologies that can boost productivity and margins. With purchase price of technology (incorrectly) viewed only as additional costs, players would benefit from shifting their thinking to “How and how quickly can I get returns on this investment?” 4) The solar world produces a near-countless selection of hardware for this industry (a surprising amount coming from China), ranging from panels to batteries to cables to engineered metal for all types of needs. However, solutions to optimizing physical processes required to put all this hardware together…and thus reducing costs and time are not readily visible. 5) With the steady stream of conversations we had with large and small EPCs and GCs, we are more confident than ever that Xpanner's solutions can offer significant value to the solar world.   We are thrilled to have experienced Intersolar 2024 and the lessons it had in store. Thank you to the Team Orteco for hosting us!

Day 2 at Intersolar 2024 is done! Today was filled with more discussions with EPCs and GCs from all over Europe. It’s clear that solar farm opportunities in Europe have attracted new-to-solar entrepreneurs who are pushing the industry to move more quickly and to adopt innovations. They’re pushing to do work smarter, faster, and with more accuracy. We ended Day 2 with a fun meal at a local biergarten with Gianluca Pellegrini and friends from ORTECO | Piledriver producers. Great end to a strong day.
