In memory of Oracle's AdTech ambitions, we reconstructed the timeline of the company's key acquisitions and challenges it could not recover from. 🔶 2012: Oracle started its AdTech foray by acquiring Eloqua — a marketing automation platform — for $871 million. 🔶 2014 was a year of three page-turning acquisitions, the first of which was Responsys, a campaign management platform. The same year, Oracle cashed out $1.2 bn for Oracle | Datalogix, a marketing analytics company, and an estimated $400 million for BlueKai DMP. 🔶 2016: Continued expansion, with the acquisition of AddThis, a tracking technology provider, for $200 million. 🔶 In 2017, Oracle boosted its verification portfolio with a $850-million acquisition of Moat. 🔶 2018: Two more acquisitions, DataFox, a predictive-intelligence-as-a-service company, and Grapeshot, a brand safety and contextual targeting platform. Yet, that same year Oracle faced GDPR Compliance challenges, affecting its data collection policies in the EU 🔶 2019: Oracle partnered with Dataxu to integrate Oracle's data with Dataxu's media buying technology. 🔶 2021: Oracle faces a lawsuit for non-consensual user data collection 🔶 In 2022, Oracle terminated its partnership with Dataxu due to strategic misalignments. 🔶 At last, in 2024, Oracle Advertising officially ceased operations. To learn what brands should take away from Oracle's case study as they choose their AdTech tech partners, check out our blog post by Vova Kyrychenko, CTO of Xenoss: 📌 See the article: https://lnkd.in/djtxVEE7

Oracle's termination of its advertising business was a shock to the industry and a crisis for many of its customers. Now, Oracle’s AdTech clients must quickly migrate to other platforms, which is a technical and business nightmare. At the same time, Oracle’s exit from AdTech is a learning opportunity for advertisers. If we had to choose 5 lessons brands should take away from the collapse, we would focus on the following: 🔶 Prioritize first-party data. Oracle’s miscalculation was failing to adapt BlueKai to a cookieless world. When choosing an AdTech partner, go for platforms that support alternative identifiers, cookieless data collection, or direct relationships with publishers. 🔶 Diversify partnerships (or build your stack). Oracle’s story showed that the longevity of an AdTech vendor is not set in stone. Avoid tying all AdTech/MarTech processes to a single provider and diversify partnerships, or build your stack to have full control over your toolset. 🔶 Reality check your MadTech ambitions. Oracle invested millions in building a MadTech ecosystem and failed. While the AdTech/MarTech convergence is coming, brands must consider the differences between AdTech and MarTech platforms when building a unified stack. 🔶 Focus on organic growth. Acquisitions can help quickly build a robust AdTech/MarTech stack, but tying them together into a functioning ecosystem takes work. Pace your growth to avoid collecting puzzle pieces that don’t fit into a single puzzle. 🔶 Stay ahead of the curve on tech innovation. First-party data, AI, and other trends are changing AdTech every day. Brands need to choose partners who can keep up with the change or build an internal team focused on following AdTech trends and innovation. This was a TLDR recap of our in-depth post on Oracle exit takeaways. Jon Walsh, #Xenoss Brand Ambassador and founder of JobsInAdtech.com and The Adtech Chat Community, connected with leading CTV experts at MAD//FEST LONDON to gather the freshest industry insights straight from the source. We’re thrilled to share these insights in our latest blog post, "State of CTV market and emerging trends for 2024." https://lnkd.in/edR2hJcs Today, we spotlight Tanguy Van Ingelgom, CEO at Ted Jordan SRL, and his expert take on the emerging trends in CTV and its rapid embrace of programmatic advertising: "Although CTV wasn't initially programmatic, it has rapidly embraced and integrated programmatic technologies over the past decade, increasingly gaining traction in the advertising landscape. In the programmatic advertising sector, CTV is becoming significantly more prominent: 🔸 Netflix is collaborating with platforms like The Trade Desk and Google Display & Video 360 🔸 Broadcasters are adopting segmented advertising, tailoring specific ads to different viewers during live TV. 🔸 Streaming VOD continues to evolve.  🔸 Key players such as Magnite aggregate publishers and leverage extensive data, partnering with firms like Nielsen and LiveRamp. This expansion makes CTV more accessible, allowing advertisers to target desired audiences without the previously required substantial investment." Curious to learn more? According to CDP Institute, over the first half of 2024, total funding in the CDP vector rose $654 million, a 9% increase over the second half of 2023. The industry is buzzing now as publishers and advertisers scramble to find effective ways to collect and activate first-party data. Most importantly, CDP offerings are maturing and becoming more innovative. The shift from packaged solutions to composable offerings is timely and promising amidst economic turbulence and ongoing SPO. In the new edition of the #Xenoss #MadTechDigest, I discuss why composable CDPs are a significant step up from packaged solutions and can become the future of data management. Here's what I am looking into: 🔶 Shortcomings of early CDPs that prevented them from finding their market 🔶 Ways in which composable CDPs improve upon packaged solutions 🔶 How CDP vendors need to adapt to the warehouse-native trend. What do you think about the future of composable CDPs? Do you believe the growth of warehouse-native infrastructures will affect the CDP market? I'd love to hear your thoughts! #adtech #martech #cdp #composablecdp #datasolutions #datamanagement
