On Monday, July 1st, the WTS Greater Chicago Chapter hosted “Lessons in Leadership: From the Illinois General Assembly and Beyond.” The panel included Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, Ed.D. (State Senator (49th District), 2013-2020) and Tollway Board Director Karen Mcconnaughay (State Senator (33rd District), 2013-2018; Kane County Board Chair, 2004-2012) and was moderated by Julie Hamos (State Representative (18th District), 1999-2010). On Wednesday, May 8th, Michael Baker International hosted Transportation YOU’s female high school students from Prosser Career Academy for a WTS Career Day. Students learned from practicing engineers representing Bridges, Roadway, Water Resources, and Business Development. Students were excited to engage in a hands-on activity for a bridge building competition. Thank you Michael Baker International, Mary Lou Kutska, PE SE, Yashna Chandran, P.E., Amanda Melendez, EIT, MS, and Esmeralda S. for planning a wonderful event for these students. Are you interested in getting involved with WTS’ mentoring program, Transportation YOU, which offers female high school students an introduction to careers in the transportation industry?
