Karishma Mehta embarked on an extraordinary journey at the age of 21 when she launched 'Humans Of Bombay,' a heartfelt initiative that has since become an integral part of Mumbai's fabric. What started as a humble Facebook page has blossomed into a community of over 2.7 million followers on Instagram, sharing stories that resonate deeply with readers worldwide. Her initial steps were bold yet challenging. Armed with a camera and boundless curiosity, Karishma wandered through Mumbai's bustling streets, seeking stories that often went untold. She vividly recalls her first encounter with a hesitant woman on Marine Drive, a moment that sparked the genesis of Humans Of Bombay. “Sitting beneath the city lights, we shared a connection that transcended our brief meeting," she reminisced. That heartfelt exchange planted the seed for what would become a transformative platform. Over the years, Humans of Bombay has evolved beyond storytelling; it has become a lifeline for many in need. Through crowdfunding initiatives, the platform has raised over 15 crores, funding surgeries, education, and rehabilitation for the marginalized. One poignant success story involves Ali Bhai, wrongfully imprisoned for decades. Upon sharing his plight, the community rallied overnight, raising 23 lakhs to secure his release—a testament to the power of storytelling united with compassion. Yet, amidst these triumphs, challenges have emerged. Recently, Humans Of Bombay found itself embroiled in controversy following a copyright dispute with 'People of India.' Critics voiced concerns, accusing Karishma's team of hypocrisy and cultural insensitivity. However, she remains steadfast, defending her team's dedication to protecting their intellectual property. Karishma Mehta's journey is not just about capturing moments; it's about amplifying voices and fostering empathy in a digital age often devoid of human connection. Her resilience and unwavering commitment to storytelling have not only touched hearts but also sparked a movement that transcends borders and inspires millions worldwide.Madhuri Awande

In 2004, Nidhi Podar founded Creative Women, a beacon of social consciousness and empowerment. From the outset, the mission has been clear: to uplift female artisans worldwide, ensuring they recognize their immense value and amplify their voices. Today, Creative Women spans nine countries, collaborating with over 3000 artisans. The journey, a testament to determination and resilience, began with three founders who, despite never meeting in person, united online to revolutionize artisanal business across the globe. From distribution hubs in the USA, Nairobi, New Zealand, and Australia, the impact resonates, trusted by esteemed brands like LVMH and West Elm. Creative Women is more than a brand; it's a movement. It celebrates the artistry of women, crafting luxury home and lifestyle products using only the finest natural fibers, dyes, and time-honored techniques. Each piece tells a story of tradition, culture, and empowerment fused with contemporary design. The commitment extends beyond commerce, nurturing long-term partnerships and creating profound impacts on families and communities. Ethical practices define the brand; the products, meticulously handwoven, embody heirloom quality, enriched by the skillful hands of artisans across generations. Looking to the future, the vision remains steadfast: empowering artisans, enriching lives, and preserving traditional techniques. The story is one of heritage, resilience, and creativity—continuously unfolding, inspiring a brighter, more equitable world. Parallel to this dedication, another story unfolds in the heart of Nepal. Nidhi Podar, driven by a passion for sustainability and tradition, founded Dhaatu Nepal —a pioneer in upcycling e-waste into premium copperware. Guided by the circular economy model, Dhaatu embodies innovation while preserving Nepal’s rich metalcraft heritage. In Kathmandu, discarded e-scraps find new life at Dhaatu’s factory in Birgunj. Melted and meticulously shaped by skilled hands, these scraps transform into exquisite copper jugs, glasses, and bottles. Unlike traditional copperware, Dhaatu’s products undergo a special treatment, ensuring durability and longevity—earning acclaim from health-conscious consumers and global markets alike. Dhaatu’s journey mirrors Creative Women’s spirit—fusing tradition with modernity, proving that innovation and sustainability can coexist harmoniously. From online platforms to international exports, Dhaatu embraces global markets, championing Nepal’s craftsmanship on a world stage. Together, Creative Women and Dhaatu Nepal exemplify the transformative power of passion and purpose. Aparna Thyagarajan Co-founder and CPO of Shobitam, a D2C online platform specializing in Indian fashion, embarked on her entrepreneurial journey in 2019 alongside her sister Ambika. Recognizing a growing demand among women living outside India to stay updated with the latest trends, they set out to bridge this gap. With over five years of entrepreneurial experience, Aparna oversees product development at Shobitam and engages closely with weaving and artisan communities to enhance outreach efforts. Driven by a passion for design, fashion, and creativity, Aparna aims to showcase Indian fabrics, culture, and heritage on a global scale by leveraging technology while preserving rich cultural legacies. At the heart of Shobitam, Inc mission is a commitment to help people look good, feel good, and do good, with a primary focus on empowering weavers and customers alike. Shobitam collaborates with over 650 weavers and artisans across 24 clusters from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, a source of immense pride. Shobitam's social initiatives, Shobitam Cares and Shobitam Gives, are designed to build a business that empowers society and creates a positive impact. Before founding Shobitam, Aparna spent over seven years at Microsoft as a Software Engineer. A chance meeting with a Zardosi artist during a sabbatical changed the direction of her career, leading her to showcase the best of Indian weaves globally. With support from her family and Ambika, she took the plunge and founded Shobitam. Buying Indian ethnic wear in the US had often been a frustrating experience for Aparna, with limited variety and quality. During a visit to India in 2018, while working with a Zardosi artist on sarees for an event, the idea of starting a boutique was suggested. Realizing that many non-resident Indians (NRIs) worldwide faced similar challenges, Aparna started Shobitam by selling just 15 sarees. In just two years, Shobitam began shipping products to over 30 countries, witnessing over 300 percent annual growth and achieving an annual turnover of Rs 9 crore in FY 21. The brand boasts more than 1,000 products listed on its website and is featured as one of the top stores on Etsy. Shobitam empowers the artisan community across India, from Sozni in Kashmir to Chikankari in Uttar Pradesh, Dabu in Rajasthan, Ikkat in Odisha, Moiran Phee in Manipur, Pen Kalamkari in Kerala, and more. With associations with over 340 weavers and artisans across 16 cities, Shobitam leverages traditional Indian designs to reach a global audience. Even amid the pandemic, Shobitam continued to support its artisans, launching the 'Shobitam Gig' program, where 50 percent of business proceeds were donated as dry rations to around 600 weavers. The brand launched it campaign, 'If it's a saree, It's a Shobitam,' featuring actor and brand ambassador vidya balan marking a new chapter in the saree revolution.Madhuri Awande Visit our website: https://lnkd.in/dwVWAA33 #startup #WomenEntrepreneurs
