Devastating natural disasters have hit Afghanistan's eastern provinces. Heavy windstorms, severe rainfalls, and flash floods have caused casualties, injuries, and extensive infrastructure damage. Roads are cut off, power is out, and our people are struggling. Unfortunately death tolls are likely to rise in the upcoming days as rescue and assessment teams comb through affected areas. Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is on the ground, assessing and aiding affected families. Our hearts go out to all impacted by this crisis. #AfghanistanFloods

In the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha, Women for Afghan Women (WAW) partnered with Islamic Relief USA to bring a meat distribution to 250 community members at our New York Community Center (NYCC) and 750 community members at our Virginia Community Center (VACC). Eid-ul-Adha signifies generosity and filling households in need with meals that are often rare for them to have at the dinner table. Your support of our programming allows for us to bring meaningful distributions like these to our community! #QurbaniMeatDistribution #Community #Eid

BREAKING NEWS: At least 35 people were reported killed and at least 350 people injured in heavy rains and flash floods in the #Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is working on the ground with our partner, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to assess needs and damage and respond. The areas impacted by the floods include areas with large numbers of displaced Afghans and refugee returnees. For more detail, see UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency-Afghanistan. And, please share! Your support is lifesaving in Afghanistan. You make this #emergency response possible. ESOL Students Graduation! Thanks to your commitment to the immigrant women served at WAW, students from our NYCC’s Fall and Spring 2024 sessions officially graduated! Spring classes came to an end in June and we said congratulations to our hardworking and dedicated students with a graduation ceremony held at a local park in Queens, New York. The graduation ceremony was led by our ESOL teachers who distributed Certificates of Achievement to their graduates and celebrated how hard the students worked this past semester. Women for Afghan Women (WAW) staff attends the Texas #AfghanSupportCenter, hosted by the Texas State Refugee Coordinator, in partnership with U.S. Immigration Services! Even after two years of the withdrawal, the Afghan community in Texas still faces gaps in access to healthcare, legal services and casework support. We are glad that we were able to participate in this opportunity and extend our support to them!
