We are excited to announce the successful completion of Women in Big Data’s Spring Hackathon 2024. Join us in celebrating three WiBD Chapters at our Closing Session, where we will share their journeys and learning experiences from this 8-week hackathon. This season, our teams tackled the crucial challenge of predicting metastatic cancer diagnoses within 90 days of screening. The Women in Data Science (WiDS) Worldwide 2024 Datathon on Kaggle provided a platform for WiBD hackathon teams to work with real-world data from Gilead Sciences and make a meaningful impact. Hear from our Chapter Hackathon Leaders Anat Zohar (Bay Area Chapter), Aruna Nadesan (Pittsburgh Chapter), and Usha Ramalingam (St. Louis Chapter), as well as Team Leaders Sanja Damjanovic, Ph.D., Amina Wasiq, and Kirthi Venkatesh. They mentored their teams, who enhanced their technical skills, formed strong networks, and gained valuable leadership and collaboration experience. During the session, our teams will discuss their experiences working on the Kaggle challenge, overcoming obstacles, and achieving their goals. A special thank you to WiBD’s Hackathon Agile Coach Deana Hsu for her guidance and support. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Rupa Gangatirkar, WiBD’s Global Hackathon Director, for her leadership, passion, and dedication.
