The Olympic Games and fashion have a long history together. From the first modern Olympic games in 1896 until the present day, fashion has played a significant role in the most anticipated international competitive seasonal sports events held every four years. Designer collections and collaborations have been inspired by fencing, gymnastics, swimming and track and field, among other games, with multiple designers lending their brand names to the outfits for the opening, closing and medal ceremonies. And with the 2024 Olympics taking place in Paris, one of the most fashionable cities in the world, styles worn by everyone from athletes to onlookers will put fashion in the front row. Milliner Albertus Swanepoel has died, according to the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The designer was 65 years old. The South African designer known for his whimsical, theatrical hat designs had a storied career dating back to the ’80s in his native country, where he initially studied graphic design at the University of Pretoria before jumping into the fashion industry. He launched his fashion career with his made-to-measure clothing label Quartus Manna, which he won a Coty Award in South Africa in 1987. He later made the move to New York City in 1989 where he trained in millinery at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He also apprenticed at Lola Hats, where he made headwear for Broadway shows. NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER know how to deliver style out east. On Wednesday night, the luxury retailer group (which offers premier delivery in the Hamptons through Labor Day) brought an intimate crowd to Watermill, N.Y., for an al fresco dinner at the Parrish Art Museum. The occasion? Summertime. Guests walked alongside the museum’s exterior and congregated in a clearing within the museum’s expansive meadow, where a vintage cocktail truck served up spicy margaritas and Hugo Spritzes. Net-a-porter interim chief executive officer and president Alison Loehnis posed with guests like Mickey Sumner and Thomas Doherty underneath a branded arch, while “SNL” star Ego Nwodim and Tinx caught up on one of the reflective benches and Rosie Assoulin chatted nearby with gallerist Hannah Traore and Jennifer Fisher. SMCP – Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot, Fursac, the owner of contemporary labels SANDRO, maje and Claudie Pierlot, swung to a loss in the first half as it struggled in China and started to rework its operations. Net losses for the first six months of the year tallied 27.7 million euros, compared with earnings of 14 million euro a year earlier. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization fell 14.9 percent to 98.5 million euros. Isabelle Guichot, chief executive officer, said: “At group level, our action plan launched at the beginning of the year — aimed at reviving our profitable growth — is beginning to bear fruit. Nevertheless, our profitability is still affected by one-off effects related to the restructuring of our store network in China and that of Claudie Pierlot, as well as additional costs linked to inflation.” Read more here : https://lnkd.in/e9_k9DZX

When Team USA takes part in Friday’s parade of nations at the 2024 Paris Olympics’ opening ceremonies, Ralph Lauren Corp. will literally be joining in that celebration. For the ninth time, the company will dress both the Olympic and Paralympic athletes for both the opening and closing ceremony parades as well as the flag bearers. Breaking from tradition, that global march of 10,500 athletes will take place not in a stadium, but on 100 boats along the river Seine. Read more here : https://lnkd.in/eXDVDg3k

Jeff Rudes and his partners started L’Agence in 2008 with the idea of creating a contemporary womenswear collection that had the glamour of Paris with the cool vibe of California. Over the years, the label has grown to include everything from eveningwear and daywear to weekend clothing, business attire and more. Recently, swimwear, shoes, belts and candles were added to round out the selection found in four L’Agence stores and 300 wholesale accounts. Even though L'AGENCE has offered denim since 2018, Rudes Denim LLC, the company’s chairman and creative director, felt there was a need to dig deeper. After all, denim is in his blood. He founded & J BRAND in late 2004 and sold 80 percent of the Los Angeles jeans company in late 2012 for nearly $300 million to Fast Retailing Co., the Japanese parent company of UNIQLO. On today's cover: Long Tail - Celebrating everyday classics such as the men’s shirt was a key message of the spring 2025 collections. This heritage piece got a reboot in a multitude of styles, such as elongated tunics, cropped tops and — a favorite among Gen Zers — the shirt jacket. Véronique Nichanian’s Hermès show also put a twist on tradition by featuring sleek, minimal dress shirts with matching neckerchiefs, as seen in this light pink look.  For more on the shirt trend, see pages 4 to 10. https://lnkd.in/ Photography by Dominique Maitre for WWD.
