On June 6, 2023, we hosted Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz at Foley & Lardner LLP for our Engaged Democracy program. Facilitated by Heidi Furlong, Justice Protasiewicz discussed the judicial branch, her campaign, and the critical importance of trust in our democracy. Justice Protasiewicz emphasized her commitment to personal values during her campaign and the diligence of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in case deliberations. This event is the first in a series we are hosting to enhance democratic representation. Future programs include a dialogue with Saint Paul’s all-woman City Council and a keynote by Erin Loos Cutraro, founder of She Should Run. The series aims to foster dynamic, inclusive conversations for social change. Sponsored by Herb Kohl Philanthropies and Marianne Lubar, we also highlighted our Flash Grants awarded to the following organizations for promoting fair courts and democratic principles. Common Cause in Wisconsin, Law Forward, League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County, University of Wisconsin – Madison, School of Law, State Democracy Research Initiative, and Sandra Day O'Connor Institute for American Democracy. At the WF we are committed to advocating for gender equity and addressing barriers impacting women and girls.
