Together, we can change the story of aging, one inspirational wish at a time.

About us

As one of AARP's charitable affiliates, Wish of Lifetime grants life-changing wishes to older adults and inspires people to redefine aging in America. Aging is universal and should be celebrated. But, negative views of aging leave older Americans isolated with fewer opportunities to connect with their communities, purpose, and passions in life. With each wish granted, older adults across the country are reconnected with the communities, passions, and people they love, helping them to live more vibrant and purposeful lives. By sharing the life stories and impacts of these experiences, Wish of a Lifetime from AARP inspires people of all ages to change how we see and value ourselves as we age. Founded in 2008 by two-time Olympic skier, World Cup gold medalist, entrepreneur, and former NFL football player Jeremy Bloom in living honor of his grandmother. Wish of a Lifetime has granted over 2,400 wishes for adults ages 65 in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The organization relies on the generosity of individual donors, corporate sponsors, and private foundations to make these life-changing wishes come true. More about our wish stories and program efforts can be found on our website - www.wishofalifetime.org, or by connecting with us on Facebook or Twitter.

Gerald’s most cherished pastime has been fly fishing for over forty years. When Gerald wasn’t working at the steel mine or running his fishing club, he watched and participated in tournaments. Sadly, much of Gerald’s activity has been placed on hold due to the Leukemia diagnosis he received in 2022 and the loss of his wife, only a few short months ago. It has been Gerald's dream to fish with the Bass Pro’s, to learn their skills and techniques. In collaboration with Bassmaster, Gerald finally had the chance to fish with the pros. "I can’t recall having such a strong connection with someone as I did with Mike." Hear from Gerald himself about his wish come true thanks to America Outdoors Radio Podcast. http://spr.ly/6049UZWvF (Photo credit: Professional Edge Fishing, Inc.)

In the face of an incurable diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, Jeri refused to retreat from life. Throughout her life, Jeri has been known for her unwavering optimism, and this trait became her armor as she embarked on her battle with the disease. Alongside her family, Jeri's first course of action was to join the Parkinson's Association Vitality Walk, not only to raise funds for research but also to combat the disease's side effects. Empathizing with others who receive the same diagnosis, Jeri also spends time at the Parkinson's Association, assembling informational packets for those navigating the same diagnosis. Even before the disease took its toll, Jeri harbored a dream: to ride a bike again. As a Colorado native, she grew up experiencing the joys of the state and the variety of outdoor explorations that it has to offer. Wish of a Lifetime granted her that wish, providing an adaptive bike lesson with guidance from Lance Armstrong's racing coach, Chris Carmichael. To continue her journey of healing, we even sent Jeri home with an adaptive bike of her own. Jeri's story underscores the importance of caring for our bodies in ways that empower us. With her newfound confidence and support, Jeri can't wait to continue riding with her grandson. By embracing life's challenges and finding joy in small victories, Jeri exemplifies resilience and determination. Let us all learn from Jeri's unwavering spirit and prioritize our well-being, despite the obstacles we may face. (Pt. 2) Linda's experience at Santa Clara Vanguard's rehearsal was a profound affirmation of the arts as a catalyst for community and connection. During a behind-the-scenes performance, Linda found a symphony of souls harmonizing not just in melody but in spirit. This convergence of aspiring artists and seasoned professionals exemplified the essence of belonging—a collective harmony transcending generational divides. “Being able to be a part of Linda’s wish was one of the most rewarding things I’ve done this Summer. She was so grateful for everything we could offer her and it meant the world to us knowing we could be a small part of that. She has a heart of gold, and she gave the Vanguard another way to express our passions in the community" - Jase B., Santa Clara Vanguard Drum Corps Member. These moments underscore the significance of the arts in fostering an inclusive environment where dreams are not only nurtured but realized. It's a poignant reminder that belonging is about contributing one's unique voice to the world's diverse and vibrant chorus. Let us champion the role of the arts in building bridges across cultures and ages, celebrating the fulfillment of dreams, and crafting a more inclusive society.

(Pt.1) “I never, in a million years, would have thought I would be able to realize my dream.” Linda’s passion for percussion hasn’t faded—not even after five decades. Her first encounter with the Annual Drum Corp. International Colorado still resonates deeply, setting her life’s rhythm to the powerful beats that once filled her neighborhood. Linda's life unfolded as she had her children and ran a successful barber shop until adversity struck. The pandemic collapsed her business and left Linda without a home, but not without hope. With an unwavering spirit, she rebuilt her life piece by piece. Linda never forgot about the call of the drums. After hearing about Drums Along The Rockies' performance, she knew she would be there; she just didn't know how yet. With the support of Santa Clara Vanguard, Linda witnessed her dream drum performance over the weekend, granting her a sense of peace, "I think drums were an integral part of my past life. It's a different kind of liberation for me when I hear them," Linda said. _ Aging is universal. We all go through it in some way, shape, or form. Being able to do so with community and connection ensures that aging is full of possibility. Are you a rock ‘n’ roll fan like Harold? Hearing rock music like The Rolling Stones transports Harold to his service in the U.S. Air Force when he left Memphis for the first time to serve and see the world. And today, at age 71, #rockNroll still gives Harold that same electrifying energy… especially when it’s performed LIVE by the ROLLING STONES! With Wish of a Lifetime’s help, Harold recently fulfilled his lifelong dream of seeing the iconic rock stars live in concert. He even got to meet original band members Ronnie Wood, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. “At my age, to see someone I grew up listening to and to know that person is still performing is uplifting. It inspires me to continue to do what I love until I can’t. Just like Mick,” Harold said. See the rest of Harold’s inspiring story: http://spr.ly/60499YCGL

The call of home is unrelenting, and the comfort of returning home is unmatched. John understands these feelings well. When we last left WWII veteran John's story, he and Darla had just begun their journey back to Maysville, MO, for a Memorial Day celebration. John and his late wife, Lola, had met and started their family there, creating ties forever intertwined in his life. Walking down the streets of his hometown, John experienced a rush of meaningful memories made over a lifetime with his loved ones. He then spent time resting and soaking in the memories while watching folks set up white crosses to recognize fallen veterans in preparation for the Maysville Memorial Day celebration. John was honored throughout the ceremony, whether it was by the local high school's band performance, the honor guard's march, or being personally thanked for his service by residents. John returned from this trip rejuvenated. "This wish has given us more quality time together," his daughter, Darla, reminisced. "While in Maysville, the door to his memories was opened, and it was just meant to be." We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support, which allowed John and his daughter to have such an extraordinary experience. Thank you for being a part of our mission to help spark hope and joy for seniors across the country. Read more about his journey here: http://spr.ly/6042ga0mq

Richard's life resonates with the melody of love and the rhythm of resolve. A talented pianist and singer, he has embraced his identity and shared his gift of music since childhood. Alongside Greg, his partner of 48 years, Richard has experienced unconditional love and support. Despite the challenges of their time, they've built a life rich in affection. The absence of children in their lives led Richard to create the Children's Voices Fund through the Community Foundation of Broward, transforming his passion into a legacy that helps foster children find loving homes. Now faced with the challenges of dementia, his story is one of a life well-lived and was celebrated with a piano concert that honored his contributions and unwavering spirit. “I am the king!” Richard exclaimed during his party.
