The MHP (Massachusetts Housing Partnership)’s Housing Institute hosted its 17th annual conference for industry professionals and volunteers interested in the development of affordable homes across Massachusetts. WinnDevelopment Senior Project Director Angela Gile participated in the panel “Tackling the Housing Shortage and Climate Crisis: The Opportunity of Amenity Oriented Multifamily Developments.” Angela discussed her experience and expertise in advancing affordable housing communities that provide quality apartments with a significantly reduced environmental footprint. The WinnDevelopment Boston team recently took a bus tour of several of our Western Massachusetts developments, including Appleton Mill in Holyoke, ThirtyOne Elm in Springfield and Mill 8 in Ludlow. This was a great opportunity for our team to see the results of their hard work in developing quality mixed-use affordable housing and interact with the people that call our communities home!

WinnCompanies community Mission Main Apartments in Boston, MA had a very special visit and performance last week from The Regiment, the horn section of Justin Timberlake's band, Tennessee Kids. The band stopped by before their two performances at TD Garden that weekend to perform for the Mission Main community, and signed autographs and answered questions from the young kids in the crowd. Their message of dedication to their craft and success was inspiring to all, sharing their journey that led them to perform and/or record with such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Timbaland, Jennifer Lopez and many, many more.     Thank you to Senior Community Coordinators Jayme Bonds and Tara Mosley, the Mission Main team, and the Mission Main Tenant Task Force for hosting a wonderful event for the community! 

Half of all renter households—22.4 million in total—spent more than 30 percent of their income on housing and utilities at last measure in 2022, up 2 million since 2019 and the highest number on record, according to a new report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Likewise, the number of severely cost-burdened renter households—those spending more than half of household income on housing and utilities—also hit a new high of 12.1 million in 2022, up 1.5 million from pre-pandemic levels. Timothy spoke on his experience with helping the company acquire and finance a preservation deal, highlighting WinnCompanies acquisition-rehab of the Preserve North Residences in Peabody, MA. WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn attended Bisnow’s 2024 Boston Multifamily Summit, an event bringing together leaders in the Multifamily Housing industry, with the goal of sharing best practices to enhance the multifamily housing communities in Boston.
