Hello everyone!! You might have noticed a lot of buzz about the Ghana Data Science Summit (IndabaX Ghana) on LinkedIn. Indeed, experiences worth sharing find their way to the spotlight. I recently had the chance to discuss my mentorship journey and its profound impact on my career. A great mentor can truly help navigate challenges. #wcw “Surrendering to fear weakens you; let love drive all your actions, leaving no space for fear."~Foutse Yuehgoh It’s Wednesday 💃 It’s an honor to introduce Foutse Yuehgoh as our WCW for this week. Foutse is a PhD student in Computer Science at Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), in partnership with the De Vinci Research Center (DVRC) and Coexel. Her research focuses on #graphs and #NLP for recommender systems, aiming to optimize information retrieval. She is passionate about increasing women's participation in #STEM and demystifying #AI. Foutse co-founded KmerAI and WPSYG. She also co-organizes WiMLDS Yaoundé activities, leads the Omdena Cameroon chapter, organizes IndabaX Cameroon and volunteers with Deep Learning Indaba and Black in AI. She loves music, singing, dancing, and collaborating on research that solves real-world problems. #highlightsonourworkshop Our 1st WiMLDS Workshop at Ghana Data Science Summit (IndabaX Ghana) was a huge success 🎊🎊🎉🎉. The workshop included a keynote Rose-Mary Owusuaa Mensah Gyening, PhD on the topic: “Leveraging AI for Social Good.” This was followed by a panel discussion on “The Role of Mentorship in Advancing Careers in Data Science and AI.” Our panelists shared their experiences and detailed how mentorship has benefited their careers. We are thankful to all our panelists: Rose-Mary Owusuaa Mensah Gyening, PhD Abigail Boateng , Adiza Alhassan, Ubaida Abdulai, and Amina Salifu . Phyllis is currently a student at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) where she is pursuing a Master’s in Mathematical Sciences. She has a keen interest in #datascience and causal #inference. Phyllis is passionate about leveraging data to uncover hidden patterns and drive informed decision making. She is particularly interested in how causal inference can be used to make sense of data beyond #correlations. Phyllis aims to contribute to the advancements in Machine Learning methodologies. Underfitting means that the model is not able to reduce the training error rate. Also, it is when a model has not learned the patterns in the training data well and is unable to generalize well on the new data. An underfit model has poor performance on the training data and will result in unreliable predictions.
