Following Governor Roy Cooper’s announcement today that IDEXX Laboratories intends to plant roots in Wilson County, Wilson County officials provided more details on the economic development initiative pegged as “Project Murphy.” Following a public hearing on Monday, August 5, 2024, Commissioners are proposing an economic incentive of $2,360,075 paid over a period of eight years, with the City of Wilson providing a matching monetary incentive over the same timeframe. IDEXX would invest no less than $145,000,000 in its manufacturing facility, which would produce veterinary diagnostic equipment, and would employ 275 new full-time employees at an average annual wage of $65,873, including benefits. The Bakertown Volunteer Fire Department has been successful in lowering their insurance rating from a 9S to a 6. This will allow for a considerable decrease in property owners' insurance premiums. The Fire Department was inspected in April of this year by the NC Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM). OSFM Rating Inspector, Lee Kennedy, presented the new rating to the Department last night at their business meeting. County Commissioner Sherry Lucas, County Manager Ron Hunt, and Emergency Management staff, Rodney Dancy and Gordon Deno, were present for the announcement. Congratulations to the membership of Bakertown Volunteer Fire Department on their new rating!
