This month the Women in GIS Northeast (WiGIS NE) Chapter is bringing together the community just to talk. Are you someone that hates small talk? Dreads the conversation about the weather, but not sure what else to say? Let’s talk about talking! For this session we are excited to have the amazing 🌎Wanmei Liang talk about her experience of coming out of her introverted shell to now hosting multiple coffee chats with GIS Professionals every month. Come join us for an informal conversation about how to have better conversations. We hope to see you there! Join us April 29! • Thank you to everyone that participated in our Women in GIS Northeast Chapter event: Advocating for Yourself. We had so many great takeaways from the session. Here are a few that resonated with the group: *Share your work through social media or a personal website/online portfolio. It's ok to promote you! *Insist your name goes on your work. Credit is important! When asking for a salary increase: *Do your research!  Research similar positions and make sure you’re in the right salary range. Have discussions with your peers around salary, don’t be afraid to ask to be paid what you’re worth. *Keep track of all of your accomplishments and how they benefited your place of employment – met deadlines, efficiencies, saved money, solved an issue, etc. Feeling overwhelmed and overloaded?  Define project parameters and set boundaries from the very beginning. When someone asks you to “work your GIS magic” make sure you get all the details (why, what is it for, explain your vision, what is the deadline, how will the data be maintained….etc.). And most importantly, remember you are worthy! You got this! #wigis #wigisne #community

  • Hey WiGIS NE Community, do you use ArcGIS Dashboards? Check out this event!

Join us tomorrow for the next #NEARC Esri Lunch and Learn Sessions! Using Data Expressions in ArcGIS Dashboards Sometimes you need to manipulate the data in your dashboard, for example adding a new field to hold a calculation or modified string, or collating data that is spread across multiple fields or layers. Data expressions to the rescue! Data expressions are Arcade expressions written to return a FeatureSet which can be used in the dashboard. In this lunchtime session we will go through some examples of how you might use them.
