  • Can you believe it? We are at the finish line with our Air Capital Build! 🛬 This incredible drone footage captures the amazing teamwork that went into building not one, not two, but THREE homes for THREE deserving families! Over the course of 10 weeks (April 2-June 8, 2024), we saw volunteers from across Wichita come together - from our incredible aviation and aerospace industries to folks from all walks of life. We believe that affordable homeownership is the foundation for a stable future. It allows families to focus on their work, their children's education, and building a brighter tomorrow. ✨ Huge thanks to our partners who have sponsored this year's Air Capital Build: Textron Aviation, Spirit AeroSystems, Leading Technology Composites, Inc., Bombardier, AMETEK, Meritrust Credit Union, Airbus, NWI Aerostructures, OneSource Technology, Inc. and many others! A special shoutout to the talented students at Wichita State University! The stunning drone footage was captured by students enrolled in Drone Videography taught by Jessica Newman in Elliott School of Communication. We appreciate them coming out and using their skills at our builds! Learn more about our Air Capital Build at https://lnkd.in/gkV-sVvE.

  • Flashback to June 8th when the Air Capital Build took flight with Spirit AeroSystems and our family partners! ☀️ We want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to those who came out on a VERY hot day to dip their brushes, mount doors, and build hope! Despite the heat, your dedication and teamwork brings inspiration to these homes. It's incredible to see the transformation of the three houses from that day to now - we are nearly done and families will soon be able to celebrate with their loved ones. Want to be part of our affordable housing solutions? You can still take flight with us and support the construction of future homes for deserving families by volunteering or donating at wichitahabitat.org. • Welcome Home, Jose and Yesenia! We're so happy to officially welcome Jose and Yesenia to the Rock the Block family! They're our newest neighbors, and we can't wait to see them thrive in our neighborhood. On June 28, they celebrated receiving the keys to their beautiful new home with family, friends, and supporters from Wichita Habitat. The celebration was made even sweeter with some delicious ceviche – everyone raved about it! Jose and Yesenia came to the U.S. with a dream of building a better life for themselves and their family. Facing challenges like limited space and shared resources, their perseverance and the support of their relatives helped them navigate these difficult times. After months of hard work, they secured an apartment, but their hearts desired a place they could truly call their own. A home where their daughter could personalize her room and their son could play safely. Their dreams now becomes a reality! They've completed over 400 hours of sweat equity and 40 hours of financial literacy courses. We're so proud of their dedication and excited for them to embark on this new chapter of homeownership. Congratulations, Jose and Yesenia!

  • We are thrilled to welcome Lovetta as one of our newest neighbors in Rock the Block! On June 27, Lovetta received her keys and officially celebrated her new home surrounded by loved ones. Lovetta’s journey to homeownership wasn’t easy. She spent 19 years in Texas facing challenges of seeking an affordable home and longed to return to her roots in Wichita, Kansas to be closer to family. However, Lovetta is a woman of resilience! Her sister recommended her to learn more about Wichita Habitat for Humanity. This marked the beginning of her journey to homeownership, where she contributed countless hours of sweat equity. From braving the cold during the annual MLK Day of Service to building her home at the construction site, she put in her 250 hours of sweat equity. Her commitment did not stop there. She also completed 40 hours of financial literacy courses, solidifying her path to homeownership. Lovetta’s mission has always been to provide a stable foundation for her children. This new home represents a haven, eliminating the fear of homelessness and financial struggles. Now, her prayers have been answered! Lovetta is filled with joy as she prepared to take ownership of her beautiful new place with her family. Congratulations, Lovetta! Your story is an inspiration to us all.
