Nourishing people and the planet.

About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500 stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

“I’m extremely proud to work for Whole Foods Market and inspired by the ways that we care for our Team Members and their families. Receiving the Mayor’s Health & Well-being Gold Partner certification shows our commitment to the Austin community — where we started more than 40 years ago. What a joy to be recognized as a leader in best practice offerings and cultivating an environment to live out our purpose to nourish people and the planet.” – Elena Chisholm, Senior Wellness Engagement Partner 💚💚💚 Applause and appreciation to our Wellness team for receiving gold-level recognition by the Mayor’s Health & Well-Being Council (MHWC). As we celebrate #ClimateWeekNYC this week, this new survey from Whole Foods Market reveals 70% of Gen Z supports climate-smart agricultural practices, and their desire for environmentally responsible choices is clear.    Gen Z consumers are not only prioritizing sustainability but also demanding higher quality in the products they purchase—with 80% placing a strong emphasis on food quality. "In 2019, I started my career as a Research & Development Technician at Whole Foods Market after graduating from Texas A&M University with a BS in Food Science & Technology. The Team Members and our culture quickly imprinted on me and became my second family. Back then, I aspired to be a Product Developer and envisioned myself as part of the team contributing to innovation, science and a love for wholesome foods.   My role focuses on protecting our stellar Quality Standard ingredients — innovating, formulating, tasting, reformulating and re-tasting before landing on a final product is my world. I work at the intersection of collaboration with our vendors and our amazing Team Members to bring products to shelves while adhering to strict quality and compliance guidelines. It was a delight to see so many teams' efforts highlighted with People's Food Awards for our tasty, nostalgically hearty 365 Organic Carrot Cake Oatmeal selected as a 'Winner of the Best Oatmeal' category! Special s/o to Sourcing, Compliance, Quality, Design, Commercialization, and the Vendor teams for a job well done: We all had a part in the success of this product launch, and what a way to see it rewarded.   I've been with Whole Foods for four years, and through consistency and a dreamer mindset, I have had the opportunity to leave many special marks here. The resources and networking opportunities have been endless for me with such a multi-faceted role; I always have something and someone to learn anew from and bounce ideas off of. Now, as a Senior Product Developer (yay!), it is a great honor to get to do the work I love and to see my team's efforts realized. I show up to all my meetings with gratitude and a never-ending urge to bring everyone together with positivity and knowledge.   I hope y’all go out and try this indulgent, warm, hugs-your-soul, wholesome snack or add it to your next holiday cookie contest! Who said you can’t have dessert for breakfast?" 😋 - Dulce Mireles, Sr. Product Developer #NourishPeople #NourishConnection #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM

"As a Prepared Foods Team Leader, I find my days are a blend between office tasks and working with my team within my department. I love that we can rely on each other like family: If my team needs me, I always go full speed on office work so I can help them in the kitchen. Leading Prepared Foods is like playing a game of chess, with the end goal being the happiness of both my Team Members and our customers. Although there may be challenges with coverage and implementing ongoing updates to meet our high standards, my team is always willing to learn new skills and find a way to come together to get the work done.   I'm always pleasantly surprised by the work/ life balance I have as a Team Leader for Whole Foods Market compared to other places I've worked. I have been in the food industry for 24 years and have never worked for another company where my balance is not only manageable but encouraged. My favorite part of being a Team Leader is training my Team Members and helping them move up. I love seeing the talent in people and helping them reach higher goals than they thought possible. My title is a reminder that I can be a bridge; it's something I don’t take lightly and constantly seek to facilitate." - Javier Colon, Prepared Foods Team Leader  #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

"Growing up in Bogotá, Colombia, and witnessing the stark contrasts in wealth informed my early views on success and happiness. This perspective shifted after my first experience with Whole Foods Market in Omaha, NE, in 2004. This sparked an appreciation for community and health that transcends basic job functions. Since joining Whole Foods Market in 2014, I have been part of a mission that values each Team Member's role in promoting genuine happiness and fulfillment in addition to health and sustainability.   It was energizing to see our values on full display during our Team Member Services Career and Development Week. Throughout the week, sessions were organized by a blended learning approach, featuring self-paced opportunities, workshops and speaker events. Team Members are constantly requesting and searching for further ways to develop and strengthen their skills; our Team Member Services team nourished that growth by empowering Team Members to explore their paths to professional development within Whole Foods Market and ensuring they are supported to cultivate their unique skills.   We kicked off with an insightful and personable session from Vice Presidents Muhammad Samir, Bob Tenzer and Julie Cunningham, setting the tone for a week full of deep reflection and appreciation. I've found that facilitating a session is the best way to learn a concept, so it was a pleasure to collaborate with Principal Learning and Development Strategist Courtney Vandiford on 'Influencing Without Authority'. Feedback is essential to our growth, so we create these instances for our Team Members to share their ideas, thoughts and concerns to help us build processes that best serve them and their work.   As we concluded the week, two sentiments emerged and stuck with me. Guest speaker Mike Thompson left us with the notion that 'Finding good means taking care of your mind and body, surrounding yourself with good people, and leaving the world better than you found it.'  Senior Vice President Alyssa Vescio's closing session reminded me how accountable I am for my development, that authenticity and vulnerability are leadership qualities that foster connections, and that as you strive for excellence, which she describes as 'being discontent,' consider the importance of balancing personal well-being with your commitments. It's a joy to work for a place that prioritizes tasks that align with shared values and encourages Team Members to find meaning in their work." - Andres Traslavina, Head of Executive Search #Recruiter #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM
