Catalyst Network
IT Services and IT Consulting
A collective of funders, charities & agencies working to improve the digital capabilities of UK charities & nonprofits.
About us
Since its inception in 2019, Catalyst has evolved from a collaborative initiative incubated by a charitable organisation, CAST, to a standalone CIC. We are beginning to deliver an exciting new vision and mission, which has been co-created with our community and focuses on the intersection of tech and power. As we establish ourselves as a CIC and redesign how we work and what we do, it is akin to being in startup mode. We have strong foundations to build on, including established funding partnerships and a wide reaching network. However, we are approaching the end of our current multi-year funding agreements and recognise that a new chapter is beginning with the launch of our new vision. Building new funding partnerships is a big priority for us, along with deeply considering who makes up the network.

Dovetail and Catalyst have been connecting with digital partners to help them progress their digital projects for four years. Together we have worked towards the greater good: helping the sector find innovative, inclusive, and impactful tech solutions. Today, as we work to achieve our refreshed vision (shaping liberatory tech for just and regenerative futures), the Dovetail team are beginning a new chapter of their own. They will no longer be part of Catalyst, but the foundations of our collaboration will undoubtedly influence the work we do in the future. Check out this blog post to discover more about Dovetail’s impact and plans. https://lnkd.in/edxwnKEH #OpenWorking #DigitalPartnerships #TechForGood

What does the UK tech justice landscape look like in 2024? The prejudice and discrimination that under-represented groups encounter in the offline world have quickly encroached on digital spaces. Unfortunately, Big Tech does little to address these harmful behaviours. We commissioned our Tech Justice report to promote a more transparent approach to these problems. The report includes: · The most concerning challenges in The UK tech sector · Who is working to address them and in which fields · How Catalyst can support their work · How Catalyst can successfully embed tech justice principles and best practices into its own work From racially biased recognition software to inadequate legal frameworks, Dawn K.’s summary of our findings breaks down every important bit. https://lnkd.in/eW_93Y-V #TechJustice #EmergingTechnologies #DigitalInclusion

Centring community needs: what does it mean to Catalyst and our wider community? Big tech companies ignore the harms caused by the inaccessible, discriminatory products they design, profit from exploiting our personal data, and invade our privacy. At Catalyst we say: people deserve better! Read Dawn K.’s article to discover how we are putting communities at the heart of our work. We hope that our activities will support communities to identify, or develop, the tech that’s right for them. Learn what ‘centring community needs’ means in practice. See examples of tech companies prioritising it in their everyday operations. https://lnkd.in/e675CW-K #CentringCommunityNeeds #TechJustice #LiberatoryTech
