  • Last month, West Basin Division IV Director Scott Houston moderated an impactful panel at the Los Angeles County Business Federation - BizFed's 3rd Annual Water Resiliency Forum. Read about the key takeaways from the session and watch the full forum online! Follow the links to take a look! Many thanks to West Basin Municipal Water District's Scott Houston for moderating our second panel at today's Water Resiliency Forum. Panelists Maria Mehranian, Robert Sausedo, Anatole Falagan, and Dr. Greg Pierce discussed how the nuanced concept of "water affordability" and our hyper-sensitivity to price acceleration can shape our ability to advance infrastructure projects. Look out for a detailed recap and recording next week. Here are our key takeaways for now. ✔️ A large swath of Californians – nearly 1 million! – still lack access to clean, safe drinking water. That's despite California stepping up as the first state in the nation to legislatively recognize the human right to water. ✔️ Infrastructure is what connects humans to resources. Think about the ways we access the most vitally important resource that supports all life. We'd have no potable water access without infrastructure. ✔️ So what funds some of our most important water infrastructure? YOUR monthly water bill. It's one of the least expensive bills most of us pay (compared to electricity, transportation, housing, and other living expenses). ✔️ We should take a closer look at industries that get large government subsidies and have high profit margins. Should some of those subsidies be redirected to critical areas like water?

  • West Basin was honored to have our very own Division IV Director Scott Houston moderate the panel "Keeping Water Safe, Reliable and Affordable" at the BizFed Institute's 3rd Annual Water Resiliency Forum held at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California this week. The main topic of discussion for the forum was "Water as an Economic Engine" where water industry leaders met to share knowledge and discuss the future of maintaining reliable water for all. West Basin's mission to provide a safe and reliable supply of water to our communities would not be possible without the support of community leaders and organizers. Thank you to Los Angeles County Business Federation - BizFed for hosting an impactful forum! 💧 🤝 #WaterForTomorrow

  • On Juneteenth, we commemorate the historic day when African Americans gained their freedom, marking a significant moment in our nation's journey towards equality. As we reflect on this significant day, we are reminded of the resilience and contributions of Black communities throughout history. At West Basin, we recognize the importance of this milestone and reaffirm our dedication to fostering an inclusive society. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to break down barriers, promote understanding, and celebrate diversity in all its forms. #Juneteenth At West Basin's recent board meeting, a proclamation was presented honoring this day. Our offices will be closed tomorrow on Wednesday, June 19th, and will reopen on Thursday, June 20th.
