“Rising Star” communications professional; am passionate about storytelling and reputation building in emerging markets

Today, October 7th, will be a difficult one for many of us in the Middle East. There have already been too many of those days as it is, with constant imagery of people being injured and killed and worry about families and friends back home. I hope that employers realize the stress people are under and offer them support (and this is not about politics, this is about health and wellbeing). And if you do know a colleague who has roots in Israel, Lebanon or Palestine, take a moment to ask them how they are doing. Show them you care.

LinkedIn Top Voice. CEO @ The Grossman Group | Internal and leadership communications

As we reflect on the anniversary of the October 7th terrorist attacks in Israel by Hamas, it's important to acknowledge how deeply these events touched many employees, and it’s time to check in with them this week. Our research in the fall of last year with The Harris Poll found that 51% of U.S. employees were personally impacted by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, even though many had no direct connections to the region. This staggering statistic reminds us of how interconnected we all are when global crises arise and that global events often impact us on a human level. For many of our employees, this anniversary will bring up difficult emotions and stress. As leaders, it's our responsibility to check in on our teams, offer support, and demonstrate care. Expressing empathy or having a conversation to let our folks share what they’re feeling can go a long way in helping employees know they’re seen, heard, and valued. I encourage everyone to take time today – and this week – to check in with those on your team. You know who to prioritize. Want help with how to do a check-in empathetically and effectively? Use this guide to thoughtfully conduct those well-being check-ins: https://lnkd.in/gY-_n5si #Leadership #Wellbeing #LeadwithHeart #October7 #WellbeingAtWork

Today’s #WeLeadComms honoree is US-based communication leader Amy Hughes. In her words: “I am an accomplished employee communications and engagement professional possessing strategic skills to elevate and amplify enterprise-wide initiatives to important stakeholders. I began my career in public relations at Cisco Systems, sharpening my PR practitioner capabilities overseeing the award-winning security product portfolio. My efforts contributed to Cisco’s security product portfolio, identified as an advanced technology, achieving an important milestone reaching $1 billion in annual revenue run rate. Since then, I’ve focused my career on internal communications and employee engagement at mission-driven organizations within healthcare. In these roles, I created thoughtful communications plans focused on the desired outcome and target audiences. I then developed messaging that succinctly articulated the “so what” for key stakeholders and successfully engaged employees, with metrics and results to match. I’m passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) including how it applies to mental health, and I consider allyship my superpower. I enjoy planning and executing events including co-creating meaningful moments that matter for employees. The 'in the moment' feedback is energizing and plays an important role in understanding our audience. While always a strategic partner, I continue to dig deeper into the employee engagement discipline. I’m also considering a career pivot later in life somewhere at the intersection of mental health and substance misuse, largely driven by my own challenges and accomplishments, and researching the learning and development that will require.” The fifth #WeLeadComms debate - “What are the top #ethics issues facing #comms” - is coming up Wednesday.  Join Alex Malouf, Sanjay Mistry, and Professor Shannon Bowen as they discuss the profession’s top ethics priorities in turbulent times. Hosted in partnership with the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence and The #PRethics Community#PRethics Community. Visit https://lnkd.in/e3cDjydU to register.
