A portal is not an intranet. An intranet is not an employee experience platform. An employee experience platform can be both an intranet and a portal. Like any digital experience, the spectrum of possibility (and potential value) must be clearly articulated so leadership teams understand the difference. Understanding is required for buy-in and success. Success is different for every company, every team, and every function. Having a conversation about what success looks like should be your first step on your journey. Sometimes it's just that simple.

I got a job because of making a website. It was my first attempt at making a portfolio. I first got the idea when someone I met during my first summer internship suggested it at a networking chat. At first, I didn’t put too much effort into it. I had it very poorly organized, and I didn’t know the first thing about web development. But, it worked and it showcased some of my work. Then it got me a part-time job as a marketing coordinator during my sophomore year. I’ve continued to improve it year after year, with it being my passion project when I get bored. So, what goes into building a PR portfolio? The answer is quite a bit: - A good homepage: You want to treat your homepage like a company landing page. It should introduce you and call out your value to the viewer, whether a client or potential employer. - An about: Describe yourself to people who view your portfolio. This is where you can shine in your creativity and personality. Lay out your experience, what you bring to the table, or anything you find valuable to the target audience you want to view it. - Samples: Arguably the most important thing! This where you showcase your work. On my portfolio, this includes case studies and writing samples. This is where you want to be picky (in a good way though) about what you showcase. Highlight your best of the best work, showcase the results of the work, and display it in a visually pleasing way. - A way to contact you: Include contact info, your LinkedIn, or however people can best get in touch. Interested in seeing an example? I’ll link my portfolio in the comments. If you have a portfolio or have other tips for ways to showcase your work as a PR pro, share it in the comments 🙌.
