  • Complex checkout = lost customers. It's that simple. → Nearly 70% of shoppers abandon their carts. This means only three out of ten customers who add items to their cart actually complete the purchase. That's a significant loss in potential revenue. Yet, despite this, some brands still miss out on the basics... 1. Streamlined Navigation: A linear, intuitive checkout process guides customers smoothly through each step, minimizing confusion. 2. Diverse Payment Options: Offering various payment methods, including digital wallets and BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) options, appeals to a wider audience. 3. Express Checkout: One-click checkout options can dramatically reduce cart abandonment, especially for returning customers. 4. Instant Support: Providing real-time support, like live chat during checkout, can address customer concerns immediately, reducing abandonment rates. 5. Transparency: Clearly communicating costs, shipping times, and return policies fosters trust and eases post-purchase anxiety. Checkout is where sales are won or lost. Make every step count.

  • The new Liquid object constructor Here’s the background: - A Shopify migration project, starting from a Shopify store theme. Legacy website functionality needed to be replicated on Shopify. - For a specific product page, each variant had a metafield listing cross-sell products. - When a variant is selected, its associated cross-sell products should be displayed. - There was a significant overlap in cross-sell products across variants. Our initial approach: We used a nested for loop, iterating over product variants and their cross-sell products. A cross-sell product could appear multiple times, but as long as we correctly managed the visibility of cross-sell cards, it seemed acceptable. However, we encountered a conflict with the theme architecture. When triggering the quick view, it opened as many times as the cross-sell product appeared, resulting in multiple network requests and an excess of clicks needed to close the pop-in. While we could have tried to identify the interface conflict in the theme’s core JavaScript file or modified the markup to work around the issue, we opted for a third solution. The solution: We went the data-structure route, using 100% Liquid to prevent duplicates from being displayed. This approach required minimal changes to the show/hide logic and had no impact on the theme code, thus avoiding potential regressions. Instead of looping over variants and cross-sell products in a nested for loop at the markup level. While this approach might seem a bit complex and verbose for such a simple use case, it has multiple advantages, especially for future, more complex features: - The logic, once documented, can function as a black-box for most developers. - Complexity is entirely contained within the Liquid block, in one place. - The markup becomes much more logical and understandable for everyone. Leveraging array and object constructors to build the data in advance is a smart move, especially when dealing with multiple data types to create advanced features. Server-side rendering for the win. Have a great day, everyone! Found this interesting? Let’s discuss in the comments! And want us to optimize your Shopify brand? Learn more here

  • This renowned redesign led to $347 million in annual sales — but here’s the overlooked strategy: It wasn’t just about an eye-catching design. The key was prioritizing ATTRIBUTES over BRAND. In Halo Top’s original design, the brand name was prominently displayed, while the product benefits were secondary. But here’s the truth: consumers don’t care about brand names, especially if they’ve never heard of you. In the redesign, the calorie count took center stage — instantly setting it apart in the market. Also, take note of the change with protein. Initially, the word “protein” was hidden under a large “7g” — but consumers might not know if 7 grams is significant. In the new design, they ditched the number and simply said “good source of protein” — a surprising claim for ice cream. The outcome: Halo Top went from unknown to $347 million in sales by 2017, sparking a wave of competitors and leading to an acquisition. To succeed, take a step back and ask: “In a saturated market, what sets me apart?” Then MAKE THAT YOUR FOCUS.
