Our inspectors go to great lengths, and great heights, to get the job done! Check out these photos of our Baltimore and Richmond team members performing a safety inspection on the 3,750-foot-long George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge in Yorktown, VA - the largest double swing-span bridge in the United States! This is part of the team's ongoing work for the Virginia Department of Transportation's Hampton Roads District, which includes 180 safety inspections of highway structures and bridges, 50 inspections for structural load ratings, and 2,300 inspections on ancillary structures, including 350 overhead signs, 1,800 lighting and camera poles, and 150 traffic signals! #WeAreRKK

Congratulations to Project Manager Jason Burton on being honored with the Georgia Section American Water Works Association’s 2024 William J. Greene, Jr. award, which recognizes those who go above and beyond to support the mission of the organization through industry leadership!   Jason has been a member of GAWP for four years, most recently serving as chairman of the Communications Committee of the Georgia Section of AWWA ever since. Through various communication platforms, his efforts in this role promoted and raised attendance for fundraising events benefiting water-related charities. He also works to recognize the achievements of operator and student scholarship recipients, ensuring the water sector has the necessary workforce in the future.   Way to go on this well-deserved honor, Jason!   The Georgia Association of Water Professionals educates, provides professional development, and promotes sound public policy in the water resources and related environmental fields by providing reliable information on Georgia's water resources for water professionals, decision makers, the media, and the public.   #RKKProud #WeAreRKK

RK&K is excited to celebrate a major milestone with our work on Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)’s Safe Zones, a Worksite Speed Control Program aimed at saving lives by reducing speed and crashes in active work zones!   In just 13 months, we helped INDOT develop and implement this program, leading to the deployment of their first roadside enforcement unit in Hancock County this week. Collaboration and our experience leading similar programs helped us bring this important project to life and we’re excited to see it progress across the state! For more information about this program and our ongoing work, visit SafeZonesIN.com. #WeAreRKK

In continued celebration of #NationalWaterQualityMonth, we’re sharing more of our work aimed at protecting and restoring our crucial waterways and water bodies and the communities they flow through! Our Environmental Water Resources team in Baltimore is currently finalizing the design of a stream restoration and in-line stormwater wet pond retrofit in the Spring Ridge community of Frederick, MD. Their proposed design includes a braided stream restoration, a wet pond retrofit, and a new submerged gravel wetland. This design approach intends to mitigate residential flooding while contributing toward Frederick County’s water quality goals for the Chesapeake Bay by preventing further stream erosion and subsequent sediment from washing into the Bay. The design also proposes the addition of several native plant and tree species which will replace the overgrowth and invasive species that currently cover the site. We’re excited to share updates on this project as construction progresses! #WeAreRKK

This week, RK&K welcomed students from the Bridges Baltimore program for a ‘Career Day’ where they toured our offices and heard from our team about what they do and projects they’ve worked on. They enjoyed presentations from our Water/Wastewater, Traffic, Site Development, Water and Natural Resources, Creative Services, and Highways departments, getting an in-depth look at the variety of the services we offer and gaining inspiration for their future career paths! We loved having them in our office and sharing what we do! Thank you to all the presenters for making this Career Day a huge success! #WeAreRKK

Today, we honor #ProfessionalEngineersDay by celebrating the PEs at RK&K and the hard work, expertise, and technical strength they bring to the firm. We are #RKKProud to have over 450 licensed professional engineers in our firm that are active in 41 states plus Washington, DC! We asked some of our newest Professional Engineers why earning this certification was important to them and how it guides and improves the work they do. #PEDay #LicensedPEday #WeAreRKK

It’s almost back-to-school season! To make sure all students in South Carolina have a successful start to the new academic year, our Columbia office recently hosted a school supply drive benefitting Homeless No More. Homeless No More works to stabilize, shelter, and house vulnerable families and provides a spectrum of care to keep family members together and meet their needs. Thank you to our team members for their generosity to this important cause! #RKKCares #WeAreRKK

Did you know August is #NationalWaterQualityMonth? To celebrate, we’re highlighting RK&K’s Water Resources group and their efforts protecting our waterways and improving water quality throughout the month. For example, our team in Baltimore recently completed the restoration of Upper Scotts Level Branch in Baltimore County. The project created a new integrated floodplain wetland complex to improve local drainage, create and restore riparian wetlands, enhance groundwater recharge, improve wildlife habitat, and provide increased flood storage that will remove homes from the 100-year floodplain. Check out the before and after photos showcasing this work to protect the Gwynns Falls and Chesapeake Bay from sediment pollution. Had the opportunity to take some of our Richmond #RKK interns out to the field today to see one of the bridges we have completed on the 95 Bridges Rehabilitation project. Two of these interns are working with our design team. One of the things I love about RK&K is the ability we have to cross-train our employees. #RKKproud
