Introducing our new team member in Thailand, Ploy! If you spot a team member chasing dogs in the jungle far away from Koh Samui, that’s probably Ploy. Ploy is from Bangkok, Thailand and she is our Grants and Partnership manager. She is instrumental in advancing our mission to address the global street dog problem through our sterilization programs throughout the region. Her role involves traveling across Southeast Asia, collaborating with our partners, and expanding our sterilization initiatives. Recently, Ploy has been on the ground in Thailand and Sri Lanka, observing and assisting our partners as they humanely capture and sterilize dogs. With Ploy’s dedication and enthusiasm we’re pretty excited to announce we’re on our way to reaching 40,000 sterilisations! That will prevent 400,000 puppies from being born on the streets. When you watch Happy Doggo's stories or reels online, it probably looks like it's all go at the land. On any given day, we'll be rescuing dogs, doing adoption interviews, walking pups, and feeding hundreds of hungry mouths 🏃🏽♂️🏃🏽♂️ But sometimes, it's also just sitting down with a scared puppy, showing her that humans are actually quite nice. Today is a huge day in terms of helping street dogs... While we help heal dogs, re-home them and feed over 800 a day, the real answer is sterilizations (neutering/spaying). Today we are tripling the partnership we have with Soi Dog Foundation. The numbers will be staggering… ✂️ 46,000 dogs will be sterilized in 2024 - of which we provide the funding for 23,000. 📈 Moving from 2 mobile units to 6 between now and September. This employs dozens of staff including locals vets / dog catchers and admin staff. 🌍 You’ll see from the maps we are targeting a very specific area in south Thailand. As our partnership with Soi Dog Foundation grows this helps eliminate the suffering for dogs with all activities backed up by data and tracking. 💪🏽 If you even took a very conservative 10 dogs stopped per sterilization you are looking at a quarter of a million dogs stopped coming into this world to suffer. Many people will follow for the individual dog stories who we save but this is the real magic. This stops so much suffering before it even happens. We never thought we’d be able to do this so quickly but the suffering is so bad for street dogs that we just had to find a way. Soi Dog Foundation are a wonderful partner and we couldn’t do this without them. To solve the street dog problem you really do need people working together. That’s our main goal at Happy Doggo! What does it look like when you have a team based all across the world? It looks a little like... 🧶 Everyone in completely different outfits! 🌦️ A lot of complaining about the weather... 💻 Only meeting some of your colleagues virtually 🥰 Making a great team regardless! 🐶 Many many dogs (and cats!) wandering into shot! Mondays and Wednesdays are content planning days at Happy Doggo where we sit down and discuss what's been happening at the land and figure out what content our community would like to see. We might be 7 hours apart but the Thai and UK-based teams have one thing in common... Everyone *loves* having their photo taken 😂

This is how it all started ☀️ Back in 2021, Niall began feeding street dogs on Koh Samui on Sunday mornings. Happy Doggo has come a long way since then and our mission has changed and grown a lot... But feeding the street dogs is something we will always do. Every day, our team and a group of helpers and volunteers feed 800 dogs across the island 🧆 Here's what one of these mornings looks like 👇🏼

The most important thing we can do to end the suffering of street dogs globally is to sterilize as many as possible. Every dog sterilized prevents multiple puppies being born into a difficult life of hunger, abuse, and illness. But we can't do it alone... This year, we're planning to sterilize 20,000 dogs and we can only do that by working with partners. Like WECare Worldwide. That's why last month, Niall headed to Sri Lanka to meet the WECare team and to get inspiration from the work they do over there - and as always, rescue some dogs!
