Education Leaders of Color
Education Administration Programs
A membership network of changemakers working across sectors to build generational wealth for people of color.
About us
Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) is a membership organization dedicated to elevating the leadership, voices, and influence of people of color in education and to leading more inclusive and sustainable efforts to improve education. Our aim is to dramatically increase the number of effective, values-aligned, third-way Black and Latino leaders in high-level positions in education and adjacent fields where they can be a transformative force in the lives of children, families and communities. To reach our goal, we focused on advancing values-aligned leaders of color, aligning our community to these values and aligned policies, and investing in our leaders through the Boulder Fund. Our vision is to disrupt generational poverty by ensuring that low-income and underrepresented children have access to a high-quality education that enables them to become critical thinkers, have choices, capitalize on opportunities and secure continuing economic advancement.

Our Network is more than a collective: we are a dynamic force of changemakers across 40 states shaping solutions and driving progress to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in American life. This month, we spotlight a few of our members who have been catalyzing action: ⭐ Dr. Feliza Ortiz-Licon (Ella/She/Her) accepted a position as Executive Vice President at Campaign for College Opportunity. ⭐ Kaya Henderson, Leadership Committee Member, and the Executive Vice President of The Aspen Institute, announced the founding of the Center for Rising Generations, alongside the Bezos Family Foundation. ⭐ Phil Kim was appointed to the San Francisco Unified School District's (SFUSD) School Board by San Francisco Mayor Breed. ⭐ Gabrielle Wyatt, 2022 and 2023 Boulder Fund Recipient and the Highland Project founder, whose 2024 poll was featured on MSNBC about the number of Black Women planning to vote in the November Election. ⭐ Jonathan Johnson, William Collins, and José Patiño were selected for the Obama Foundation's Leaders USA Program. Each story reinforces the power of our Network and the undeniable impact of our leaders who draw on their identities—Black, Latinx, APIA, Indigenous, immigrant, first-generation, and more—to create opportunities for young people of color to thrive. Last week, our President Lisette Nieves joined a group of visionary leaders at the EdLOC National Convening. In a powerful conversation with New Profit CEO, Tulaine M., Lisette shared the following: "The mythology of 'I' is dangerous. You will not survive thinking you're the only one who can save yourself, your students, and your family. You can't get stuff done with just 'I'." Thank you to all who participated and to Education Leaders of Color for convening such an inspiring community!
