The Midland Building project posed a unique engineering challenge as it aimed to seamlessly integrate four adjacent buildings, initially separated by 6-inch gaps, into a single commercial building. Tasked with achieving an open-concept space while preserving an industrial aesthetic, Ross Group's team faced the complexities of merging structures with varied materials, as buildings #1 and #3 had structural brick walls, and buildings #2 and #4 had structural CMU walls clad in a brick façade. Central to the project's success was creating 10'x10' openings across shared walls, demanding precise planning, shoring techniques, and ½ inch steel plates in the jambs and headers to ensure structural integrity. The implementation of steel plates, jambs, and headers not only supported the openings but also enhanced the industrial theme desired by the client and guaranteed the durability and stability of the commercial space. This project represents a testament to innovative engineering and meticulous execution, setting a benchmark for similar future projects. #withrossgroup

NEW PROJECT /// Inheritance Juicery Brookside Nostalgia is a powerful emotion that can give new life to the future. With landmark status and a long Tulsa history, ‘Claud’s Hamburgers’ will be refreshed and invigorated for a healthy tomorrow. The compact space features original elements that will be preserved, embodying the visual vocabulary of a classic American diner, while new design aims to extend that classic feel, preserving the authentic experience. Building on the original 1950 Van’s Hamburgers stand, Inheritance Brookside expands the original architecture to accommodate new services. The original roadside attraction inspires design and color, blending current branding and menu offerings to create an updated attraction that will appeal to future generations. INHERITANCE BROOKSIDE is located at 3834 South Peoria Avenue and hopes to open its doors to the public this summer. Inheritance Juicery

/// HISTORIC PRESERVATION WDesign is working with the Prairie House Preservation Society to produce a Historic Structure Report for The Prairie House in Norman, Oklahoma. Constructed in 1961 by architect Herb Greene, The Prairie House is a renowned example of Organic architecture within the Modern Movement, influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and Bruce Goff. Greene’s vision, rooted in Goff’s Organic design principles, sought to synthesize various arts and respond to the elements of «people, place, time, materials, and spirit.» His non-conformist approach to architecture posed thought-provoking inquiries, leading him to conceive ‘The Prairie House’ as a poetic creation on the vast prairie landscape, a spatial manifestation unimaginable in the 1960s. The report comprehensively assesses the current condition of the house and property, providing recommendations aligned with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for its preservation. INTERNSHIP /// ELLA   We’ve had the pleasure of having Ella Bowman, a high school senior, intern with us for the last couple of months, and asked her to write down some of her thoughts on working with us and possibly choosing architecture as a profession: Hi, I'm Ella, a senior at Bishop Kelley. I have had the privilege to intern at W Design . I went into this internship thinking that I knew a lot about the job due to my dad being an architect and seeing him work at home a lot. Turns out I did not know as much as I thought. During the internship, I was able to design my own buildings, sketch my own floor plan, and use AutoCAD, Sketchup, Lumion, and much more. I was also able to have hands-on experiences where I walked through a home and had to understand what the client wanted for the remodel. In recent months I have considered becoming an architect or an interior designer and going to college for it. In the beginning, I had believed I did not want to become an architect due to the fact my dad already was. My perspective has changed since doing my internship. I realized how cool it is to see your designs come to life. That architecture is more interesting and complicated than it seems from the outside. I am still undecided about where I am going to go to college but when deciding my major, I will definitely consider pursuing architecture for my career after my time at W Design. It has allowed me to use some of my creativity that I enjoy doing and has also pushed me further to use other skills. Most importantly, my next goal in life is to decide where I want to go to college. Then, I will decide exactly what I want to do for my career. Right now, I am in a big decision-making phase in my life, but I like to think of it like this, "I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me- Tracee Ross." I am thrilled to see what the future has in store for me. //Ella ----------------------- We loved having you in the office, Ella, and wish you all the best with your academic endeavors. #architecture #internship #tulsa Bishop Kelley High School
