Sports bring us together. But they can also leave behind tons of carbon emissions – including methane from landfilled food waste. At Denali we work to solve this problem, and we partner with some of the largest sports venues in the country to recycle food waste – keeping it out of landfills. We are proud to be a member of the Green Sports Alliance to promote best practices that can make the industry more sustainable. #sustainability #zerowaste #circulareconomy #recycling

What happened to the nachos you threw away at the basketball game? If you live in a city where Denali works with event venues, your nachos may have become soil. That's because we separate food from trash and use it to make compost - an ingredient in many of the bagged soils you'll find on store shelves. Thanks to Waste Today for highlighting the work we do with convention centers, concert venues, and sports stadiums to make the circular economy happen! https://lnkd.in/gTFG_MzX #circulareconomy #sustainability #recycling #foodwaste

We are proud to highlight women who lead operations at Denali. General Manager Heather Nelson is one of them. Heather cherishes rural Northwest Arkansas. She grew up in the region, and on weekends she enjoys “just soaking in the peace and quiet of living in the country.” But in her role as a General Manager at Denali, Heather’s oversight extends beyond the Ozarks. She manages organics recycling operations from Arkansas to as far north as Minnesota, serving hundreds of customers and directing dozens of employees. Heather's five-year career with Denali illustrates the support the company offers female leaders. She started in an accounting position with Denali in 2019 and brought with her experience from the manufacturing sector. She went on to hold positions as a project manager, then as an operations analyst at Denali. In 2022, an opportunity arose to take on the position of general manager, and she was selected among several candidates. “People saw that I wanted to do more, and felt that I could do more. They believed in me. So I was given the opportunity, and I am extremely grateful for it” Heather said of her path to leadership at Denali. Heather manages an operations team of all males, but the gender difference largely disappeared “when everyone understood that I’m really just here to help you get your job done,” Heather said. “I 100% wish more women would express interest in operations,” she said, “I think operations could use more diversity.” #WomensHistoryMonth #recycling #sustainability

During #WomensHistoryMonth, we are proud to highlight women who lead operations at Denali like Assistant General Manager Elaine Duggan. Many years ago, Elaine's father told her she would always have work if she pursued a career in the waste industry. 30 years later, with experience ranging from cardboard recycling to trash hauling to composting, Elaine reflects, “He was right. It’s been a good ride.” Based in Florida, Elaine oversees food waste recycling at more than 2,000 grocery stores in 7 states, plus Puerto Rico. Change is constant in the industry, she says, but she’s ascended to her current position while also raising three sons with her husband of 31 years and relocating to the Sunshine State in recent years to be closer to family. Being a woman has not always been easy in the waste industry, she says, “but the culture has definitely changed.” “I struggled with it (being a female in operations) early on. I always felt like you had to prove yourself more, to be firmer than average. But now, I don’t feel that it’s any different than being a male in the same position. Especially here at Denali. I feel we are given equal respect.” #recycling #sustainability #compost #circulareconomy

On this #WorldWaterDay, we are thinking about our work with hundreds of water utilities across the U.S. The City of Cartersville, Georgia is a great example of how we partner with municipalities to protect water quality, benefit the land, and preserve landfill space. Special thanks to Denali's Steve Hall for his collaboration with Cartersville and many other utilities in the Southeast! On Tuesday, we delivered the second of what will be dozens of truck loads of hay to Texas, where it will help ranchers impacted by the largest wildfire in state history. There is so much to rebuild - homes, livelihoods, fences, herds. We hope this feed will help families with livestock recover from the disaster. Denali is grateful to its farmer partners in Missouri and Arkansas who stepped up to donate hay in addition to the bales purchased by Denali. In particular, we thank farmers Jerry Evans of Fairview, Missouri, Jamie Marion of Alma, Arkansas, and Hunt Farms of Dardanelle, Arkansas. Thanks also to J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. for providing the trucking for the first loads. There are over 148,000 public water systems in the U.S. As many of these utility providers began storing water purification residuals more than 50 years ago with the institution of the Clean Water Act, ponds holding these residuals are filling up. Fortunately, Denali is helping water providers to meet the challenge. We bring decades of experience in dredging, transportation, and beneficial reuse - restoring storage capacity and minimizing reliance on landfills. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gbZmM-E5
