The biennial Farnborough International Airshow continues to be a critical and successful opportunity to showcase Washington’s global role at the forefront of innovation in aviation and aerospace. State representatives this week have met with key international partners and made connections with businesses from around the world. This is our largest ever delegation focused on sharing how the state is leading the way in building a sustainable future in the industry. The event has showcased Washington’s unique strengths and priorities: Sustainable fuels, electric aircraft, industry 4.0, factory automation, uncrewed systems, advanced air mobility, and commercial space. This program is designed to support jurisdictions seeking to transition from a paper to digital residential permit review process in order to address housing shortages. Application scoring will prioritize jurisdictions that currently have a paper-only or hybrid permitting system, and are experiencing increased population growth and permitting numbers. At the Farnborough International Airshow today, State Senator Andy Billig participated in a panel discussion titled “Achieving Net-Zero: The Role of Innovation, Technology, and Government in the Aerospace Industry.” The panel, which included experts from Capgemini, Collins Aerospace, CATAGEN LIMITED - a Net Zero Technologies company, Reaction Engines, and MarketsandMarkets™, provided a comprehensive overview of the industry’s journey towards net-zero emissions. Senator Billig focused on the pivotal role of governments, technological advancements, and the broader ecosystem, while also highlighting Washington’s leading efforts to develop cleaner fuels and reducing carbon emissions. He discussed how innovations in the supply chain, existing processes, and the new technologies are driving the industry closer to its net-zero goal and achieving more sustainable air travel. Our delegation also hosted a networking reception to promote Washington and connect with potential clients, buyers, and other innovators. The sun has set on another successful day for our team on the ground at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK. Delegation members were busy networking with aerospace professionals from around the world at the #ChooseWashington booth to promote trade opportunities, partnerships, and business development. Additionally, we had a successful ‘speed dating’ session with our friends from Northern Ireland. It was a unique opportunity for their delegation to pitch their products and services to our team. Commerce is collaborating on an innovative cross-border hydrogen analysis project with the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) and British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation’s Clean Energy Major Projects Office. PNWER announced the first-of-its-kind study to explore how British Columbia and Washington can work together to develop and grow the region’s hydrogen economy and infrastructure, and establish the PNW as a leader in hydrogen technology.
