Grumpy security agents, the threat of flight delays, crowds massing at the gate: Together, they’re a recipe for traveler stress. If you have access, airport lounges can be a serene haven in which to counter it. Lounges have become easier to access and, at times, overcrowded. As airports open more of them, travelers should recognize the major do’s and don’ts. For fliers entering a lounge for the first (or 500th) time, here’s our etiquette guide to keeping the peace within the club.

Analysis by Andrew Van Dam: While adoption may have been more common in the tough-to-measure past, it’s surprisingly rare today. Depending on the source, adopted children seem to make up 1 to 3 percent of America’s under-18 population. It’s the fifth most common relationship between a child and a head of household, narrowly ahead of foster care, according to the Census Bureau.

As soon as it became clear that Vice President Harris was going to emerge as the likely Democratic presidential nominee, a certain knowing joke emerged almost simultaneously on social media. Images of various “whites” — white wines, white paint chips, white crackers — with captions implying that these were Harris’s vice-presidential choices. Even “The Daily Show” got in on the gag, repurposing the photo of Harris receiving the 2020 call from then-candidate Joe Biden that he had chosen her as his No. 2, with the caption: “Hello, is this the Midwest White Guy Emporium?”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered agencies to remove homeless encampments on state land and urged local officials to follow suit, citing a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing cities to enforce bans on sleeping in public spaces. “In the past, the courts have denied the ability for local government, including the state, to clean up many of these encampments,” Newsom said in a Facebook video discussing his executive order. “ … We have now no excuse with the Supreme Court decision.” California is home to more than 180,000 unhoused people — nearly a third of the country’s total — and almost 70 percent of them live without shelter outside, a larger share than in any other state, according to federal statistics.

ChatGPT maker OpenAI showed off a new web search product Thursday, directly challenging search giant Google and laying out its vision for how chatbots may change the way people interact with the broader web. The free tool, called SearchGPT, consists of a search box similar to that of a traditional search engine. Users can ask follow-up questions in a conversational tone to get more specific answers. SearchGPT will initially be available to a small group of users and publishers before eventually being integrated into ChatGPT, OpenAI said in a blog post Thursday.

JD Vance suggested in a TV interview that some Democrats including Vice President Harris are “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable.” Many on social media are embracing and owning the “childless cat lady” label as a point of pride, with many even pointing to reported billionaire Taylor Swift as a prime example of a highly successful one — seen even on her 2023 Time “Person of the Year” cover with her fluffy ragdoll wrapped around her neck. “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States,” actress Jennifer Aniston wrote, slamming Vance in an Instagram story. “Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day."

At the Paris Olympics over the next three weeks, thousands of athletes will compete to win medals and stand on podiums. A select handful, such as Lyles, will be striving for something even greater. They are a quadrennial window into the limits of human performance. A Post analysis of the progression of records in swimming and track and field events illustrates the varying degrees technology, training and talent have influenced both sports. While swimmers continue splashing through perceived boundaries, track records — especially in short sprints — may be approaching the razor’s edge of possibility.
