Encourage the Kids You Know to Unleash Their Creativity! The Division of Child Support's annual Calendar Artwork Contest is here! It's an incredible opportunity for kids up to age 17 to express their creativity and have a chance to be featured in our widely distributed sticker calendar. This year's theme: Create a Superhero Self-Portrait! Every child has a unique set of superpowers just waiting to be shared with the world. This is their chance to showcase their special abilities and aspirations through art. Why Participate? Foster Creativity: Kids can explore their imagination and create something truly unique. Recognition: Winning entries will be part of the DCS annual calendar, distributed across the state. Inspire Others: Share their superhero story and encourage others to find their own hidden powers. Tips to Get Started: Super Powers: How do they manifest? Through symbols, pictures, accessories, or words? Think of soaring through the sky or showing strength with a mighty pose! Superhero Costume: What makes it special? Capes, masks, or gadgets—let's see them! Sidekicks & Environment: Who or what accompanies them? Where do their adventures take place? Add Some Flair: Use comic book-style sound effects like “POW” or “ZAP” for added fun! Contest Requirements: Original, horizontal artwork (not vertical). Use crayons, paint, colored pencils, markers, or oil pastels. Clay and mixed media/collage are welcome. Bright, bold colors that fill the entire page. No computer-generated artwork. How to Enter: Take a high-resolution picture of the artwork and save it as a .jpg or .png file. Email it to [email protected] with "Calendar Contest" in the subject line. Attach the artwork image. Include the artist's name, age, city, and state, as well as an adult contact person with contact information. Each child may submit up to three pieces of art. 🗓️ Deadline: Submissions must be received by Aug. 15, 2024. Selected entries will be showcased in our annual calendar and may be featured on DSHS's social media sites or website (only the child's first name and age will be shared).

On Wednesday, July 18th, the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services Secretary Jilma Meneses and Dr. Tonik Joseph, assistant secretary for the Developmental Disabilities Administration, led a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon in the City of Burien to officially announce the opening of the innovative Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility. State of Washington Governor Jay Inslee led off the opening remarks for the event, while representatives from the WA Department of Children, Youth, and Families, Seattle Children's Hospital and MultiCare Health System also spoke about the partnerships supporting the new therapeutic facility. The facility will provide intensive behavioral support for youth in crisis, serving as a critical resource for those who have had prolonged stays in emergency rooms, out-of-state placements, or other temporary accommodations not requiring acute medical attention. #YouthSupport #CommunityCare #BehavioralHealth #WashingtonState #PersonCenteredCare #RibbonCutting
