Washburn Center is so proud to be among those who lifted our voices today at The MN Capitol for change in mental health laws. Our mission calls for transforming children's mental health - and we know that starts with each citizen's voice. Did we miss you today? There’s still time to call your state legislator and ask for support for this year’s mental health bills. Nuturing every child and family's well-being and full potential through transformative children's mental health care.
About us
With more than 141 years as a community-based provider, Washburn Center for Children is a vital community resource, serving more than 4,200 Twin Cities’ children and their families each year. Our commitment is to make services affordable, accessible and culturally responsive for families -- and meets them where the live, learn and play. The mental health care kids receive at Washburn Center is a safety-net. Community-based mental health care is for all kids and families who need us, period. As an agency, Washburn is balancing community needs that are not going anywhere, financial sustainability and taking care of our staff so they develop and grow – sustaining this mission for this generation of children and those to come. Generous donors ensure financial sustainability is possible even in the reality of long-standing underinvestment in the mental health care system. When families thrive, communities, neighborhoods and schools are stronger.

Construction season in Minnesota landed in our Glenwood Avenue neighborhood. Access to our parking lot is not affected and therapy services will not experience any interruption, but here is an update on navigating the streets near our Minneapolis location: • Glenwood Avenue construction is scheduled from Penn Ave to Bryant Ave. Construction adjacent to the Washburn Center site will not be constant over this entire time but you may encounter disruptions or occasional detours. • The sidewalk will be replaced around the northwest corner of Glenwood Ave and Dupont Ave and only the shoulder in this area is anticipated to be closed. • There will be no impact to Washburn Center's entrances. The sidewalk at the corner of the intersection will be closed while under construction. A temporary alternate pedestrian route will be available during the closure.

July brings Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Everyone deserves easy access to care and mental health is never one-size-fits-all. Effective therapy is tailored to an individual and family - and above all, culturally responsive. More than half the families served by Washburn Center staff identify as BIPOC. To serve those families and youth with quality care, we've embedded equity, diversity, growth and building multicultural community in our everyday practices. This month and every month, we celebrate the joy and resilience of clients, families and staff.

Washburn Center is leaning into celebration, reflection and rest as we collectively take a paid, company-wide day off honoring deep resilience on Juneteenth -- Wednesday, June 19. In order to help our staff have extra time to restore amid a very busy year, the agency will remain closed the rest of the week, and will reopen for regular service on Monday, June 24. If you or someone you love are in immediate physical danger, call 911. If you or a loved one are in mental health crisis, call 988 or visit the online crisis hotline: https://lnkd.in/e3iV3VN

Every child deserves supportive, compassionate people and places to be themselves and grow - this month and every month. Our steadfast commitment is to be that place for LGTBQ youth and families. So they discover healing and hope especially amid the relentless, damaging legislation efforts that have deep, individual effects on the mental health of the kids in ALL communities. Now's the time to take action and talk about it with the kids in your life: you can be the person to actively help kids feel safe and supported.
