Washburn Center is so proud to be among those who lifted our voices today at The MN Capitol for change in mental health laws. Our mission calls for transforming children's mental health - and we know that starts with each citizen's voice. Did we miss you today? There’s still time to call your state legislator and ask for support for this year’s mental health bills. Nuturing every child and family's well-being and full potential through transformative children's mental health care.
About us
With more than 141 years as a community-based provider, Washburn Center for Children is a vital community resource, serving more than 4,200 Twin Cities’ children and their families each year. Our commitment is to make services affordable, accessible and culturally responsive for families -- and meets them where the live, learn and play. The mental health care kids receive at Washburn Center is a safety-net. Community-based mental health care is for all kids and families who need us, period. As an agency, Washburn is balancing community needs that are not going anywhere, financial sustainability and taking care of our staff so they develop and grow – sustaining this mission for this generation of children and those to come. Generous donors ensure financial sustainability is possible even in the reality of long-standing underinvestment in the mental health care system. When families thrive, communities, neighborhoods and schools are stronger.

Olympians launch into the Games today, carrying with them the courage to fight the stigma around mental health. From sharing their own stories to supporting the increase in mental health services during the Olympics, these athletes are helping youth around the world know: You are not alone! "I think that what we hear in the media, and what athletes are willing to share, is kind of like the tip of the iceberg," said Dr. Julia Cawthra, a psychological services provider with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which has more than a dozen credentialed mental health experts to support Team USA athletes. https://lnkd.in/g4g7Dmyx

Get answers that lead to better healing for your growing student! One of Washburn Center’s new testing packages, the Cognitive and Development Assessment, offers a thorough evaluation of mental and emotional skills, helping to pinpoint areas that scholars may need some extra support and offer ideas for how parents and teachers can work together to find better outcomes. “These tests and reports will help demystify what’s happening for a youth in their learning and outline a plan forward,” says Rachael Krahn, PsyD, clinical testing director. It can be such a relief for a parent to get answers when their student is struggling in one area but excelling in other areas.” See a full list of Washburn Center's testing offerings, and sign your family up to get tailored, enlightening results: https://lnkd.in/gGQWixG4

“You want to talk to somebody about how you can talk to your parents, how you can talk to your coach, because your dad’s in your face about your performance all the time, your mom is disappointed that you’re not playing anymore, etc.,” Strauch said. These problems can build up over time and affect the athlete’s schoolwork, relationships, self- confidence and more. https://lnkd.in/gGqN66XC

Construction season in Minnesota landed in our Glenwood Avenue neighborhood. Access to our parking lot is not affected and therapy services will not experience any interruption, but here is an update on navigating the streets near our Minneapolis location: • Glenwood Avenue construction is scheduled from Penn Ave to Bryant Ave. Construction adjacent to the Washburn Center site will not be constant over this entire time but you may encounter disruptions or occasional detours. • The sidewalk will be replaced around the northwest corner of Glenwood Ave and Dupont Ave and only the shoulder in this area is anticipated to be closed. • There will be no impact to Washburn Center's entrances. The sidewalk at the corner of the intersection will be closed while under construction. A temporary alternate pedestrian route will be available during the closure.
