In the heart of the vibrant East Bay, Ashland Zócalo is more than just new green space—it's a celebration of Ashland's diverse cultures and community spirit! 🎉 Join us for the grand opening tomorrow, July 17th at 2:00 PM. Over the past 20 years, Ashland’s Hispanic/Latino and Asian populations have grown by nearly 70%, enriching this community with vibrant traditions and perspectives. With this growth, Ashland is one of the most densely populated areas in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a pressing need for more green spaces. To address this, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) and the Trust for Public Land (TPL) teamed up with the community to create Ashland Zócalo, a new central gathering place for all to enjoy. 🌳 Read more about this exciting project here: https://lnkd.in/gtJ5_G9a #wrtdesign #EastBay #parkdesign #GrandOpening #GreenSpaces

Excited to be working alongside Tulsa Housing Authority and Pennrose on this important mixed-income, mixed-use housing development.
It's been the best kind of whirlwind today as we celebrated the groundbreaking for 36N, a $200 million mixed-income, mixed-use development in North Tulsa! The day started with some pre-event media and I want to extend major kudos to Douglas Braff for his work on this story; he did a fantastic job underscoring the importance of the Choice Neighborhoods program and its commitment to supporting people while developing housing and investing in neighborhood revitalization. https://lnkd.in/gsXcew9a

"[The Ford Park Master Plan is] fundamentally about the ability of the stakeholders to work together. How can we create a vision for the next 10 years that sets everyone up for success with established priorities for operational and policy-driven improvements?” - Andrew Dawson, WRT Senior Associate / Landscape Architect (WRT served as prime consultant for the master plan.) The Ford Park Master Plan strikes a balance between re-affirming what is working well and re-imagining what could be done better. As an update to Ford Park’s official planning document, it reflects current community values, recreational trends, and cultural contexts, and informs decision-making and aligns funding with park priorities. The plan unifies the Park through a shared vision and promotes open lines of communication and collaboration between stakeholders, by streamlining maintenance and operations through a set of guiding principles. Tomorrow at the City Parks Alliance biennial Greater and Greener conference, Jared Edgar McKnight, Assoc. ASLA and Assoc. AIA is joining a panel discussion, “Parks and the Unhoused” alongside Liz Sewell and Paul Pereira from the City of San Jose, Vicente S. Harrison from the City of Portland Parks and Recreation, and Ruth Blaw from Bellevue Parks & Community Services Department. Jared will share his perspective which stems from his ongoing research on homelessness in LA (initiated while he was a Graduate student at USC) and now Philadelphia (through WRT), exploring the criminalization unhoused individuals experience in public space, and considering the role design plays in that experience. "I hope these conversations will inspire others to see landscapes through an empathic lens, amplifying the voices and identities of those who are not often heard or designed for." - Jared McKnight Please join to hear from this diverse group of practitioners if you're in Seattle for the conference. #greaterandgreener2024 #cpa2024 #parksforall
