  • Eleven years ago, Scott Pulley and Brian Garrett hosted their first Pride Brunch and donated proceeds to causes and organizations that support the LGBQT community — VOA Utah's Youth Resource Center being among them. Last week, they presented us a check for over $15,000, the proceeds from their most recent brunch held earlier this month! We are honored and grateful to be the recipient again of such a meaningful contribution and are amazed at the growth of the contribution from you and your friends and community over the years. Thank you for supporting the Youth Resource Center and the LGBTQ kids served there.

  • We hosted over 300 supporters, partners, friends, and staff on Wednesday at our annual Founders Day Breakfast Celebration. This event honors Volunteers of America's founding in 1896, the genesis of VOA Utah's inception in the '80s, and a sneak peek of our continued expansion to help more Utahns who are homeless and in need of addiction and mental health services. Founders Day is also an important fundraiser, and our last campaign is before the end of our fiscal year. As you can imagine, our cost of providing lifesaving services has increased along with everybody else's, and we are working hard to make a dent in our operational gap before the end of June. We invite our wonderful community to contribute to our mission by donating today: https://lnkd.in/gyZQRmu5

Congratulations to Sue Ativalu, LCSW, Vice President of Program Operations at Volunteers of America, Utah, recipient of the National Programming Excellence Innovator Award. In Salt Lake City, Sue oversees two homeless shelters, two residential detox centers and a street outreach program. She spearheaded VOA Utah’s recognition as a best-practice, trauma-informed organization and ensures regular training for opioid addiction. She even broke a car window with a hammer and administered two doses of Naloxone to save someone’s life. Sue is truly a life-saving hero. #VOACON2024

  • Have you ever considered being a mentor? Amplified Mentoring (AMP) is a Youth Resource Center program that provides one-to-one mentoring opportunities for youth in Salt Lake County. Reliable, caring relationships with adults provide youth with the additional support they need to develop into successful members of our community. When youth know someone cares about them and recognizes their contributions, they are more likely to develop their skills, make healthy choices, and achieve self-sufficiency. • Asking individuals, corporations, foundations, or any other entity for donations is an interesting proposition. In many ways, we compete with other nonprofits in our community for contributions, but when all is said and done, we are working for the same goal: relieve the suffering and burden of loved ones who need it and help get folks back on a path to living a happy, productive life. At VOA Utah, our focus is: Provide emergency shelter for women and youth ages 15-22. Move unhoused individuals out of shelters and into sustainable housing. Provide detoxification services to our most vulnerable populations and set them up with continued rehabilitation services. Provide mental health counseling for anybody who needs it. Scour our public spaces, create relationships with Uthans living on the streets, and connect them with services — ours or anybody else's — so they can get the help they need. Provide comprehensive wrap-around services for thousands of Utahns that in many cases, are immediate band-aids but that always center on sustained recovery. If you connect with our mission, we welcome your contribution and the support it gives us to provide these services, day in and day out, 24 hours a day. Additionally, a private donor has committed to match all donations up to $75,000, so there is no better time than now to contribute. Whether you donate to us or any of the critically needed nonprofits in our community, please consider an end-of-year contribution. https://lnkd.in/gUK7Hgpp
