What an incredible week at The Lead Summit! We concluded on a high note with VMG's Aarti Kapoor moderating an insightful panel featuring CEOs whose teams are mastering omnichannel distribution strategies. We heard from Andie's Melanie Travis, quip.'s Lauri Kien Kotcher, and The Honest Kitchen's Will Lisman. Going omnichannel is no easy feat, so we got the inside scoop on how these brands are making it happen: 🌴 When done strategically, pop-up stores can help a D2C brand transition to brick & mortar without breaking the bank. 🪥 Listening to consumers in a D2C environment is critical as you expand into omnichannel - don't fall victim to looking at these distribution channels in a vacuum. 🐾 The power of independent retailers to grow your brand in a crowded category can't be overlooked. And now to share what’s next: Monday was my first day at VMG Partners, a leading investor behind consumer brands and services like KIND, Quest Bar, [solidcore]. K18 Hair and more. The opportunity ahead is to channel that ecosystem in support of #CommerceInfrastructure and #martech founders with our $400M dedicated Technology fund. #digitalcommerce and #revtech have been a throughline in my career since 2010, starting with an internship with Raj and Ashutosh at Bloomreach. Other investments / formative collaborations followed, from Ahmed at SquareTrade to Dan and Pete at Optimizely to Nick at Gainsight to Andrew at Wrike and Jason and Viral at 6sense. Each of you have profoundly shaped my understanding of exceptional leadership. Of course, working with the inimitable Rajesh and Signifyd for the past 7 years has been the finishing school for that journey, adding the operational depth of scaling #Gotomarket and owning a #RevTech stack. So when Carle, Michael and I first spoke about the vision for VMG Technology, it felt like convergence: a chance to funnel all the lessons learned as an investor and operator in these categories in the service of another generation of founders. This week we took speed dating to new heights at Kinneberg Management Group's office in Minneapolis where we connected 13 Frozen & Refrigerated brands with Target buyers. Each brand sat down with their respective buyer for 30-minutes where they had intimate, 1:1 conversations about future innovation and how their brand fits within Target’s vision for the future. We walked away from the day feeling energized for what’s to come in the Frozen & Refrigerated aisles, as did our partners at Target. Thank you Melissa Millo & Sarah (Crawford) Kane for championing this effort on behalf of Target, and to the buyer team Adrianne L., Ryan Boes, Gillian Asiala, Stacy Hauersperger, and Tiffany Flaa for sitting down with each brand throughout the day. To our hosts at KMG - Doug Kinneberg & TJ Varecka - thank you for opening up your space to host this event and for facilitating an informative panel. Last but not least, a massive shoutout to our very own Kathy Yuh for running with this idea and bringing it to life.
