Sumba, #Indonesia, historically nicknamed “Sandalwood Island”, was once rich in sandalwood trees but now faces agricultural issues. Climate change has led to shorter rainy seasons and a 2023 locust infestation that devastated crops. Today, many of the island’s population, a third being children, struggle with poverty and food insecurity.
