Public health nonprofit working to improve nutrition and health outcomes for underserved women and children worldwide.
About us
Founded in 1994, Vitamin Angels is a public health nonprofit working to improve nutrition and health outcomes in low-resource settings worldwide. We strengthen, extend, and amplify the impact of our partner organizations working to reach the most nutritionally vulnerable groups – pregnant women, infants, and children – who are underserved by existing systems. We do this by delivering evidence-based interventions and offering technical assistance, including ongoing monitoring and evaluation, to ensure program quality, scale, and impact. Vitamin Angels works with over 1,200 local organizations, including governments, to reach more than 72 million women and children in nearly 65 countries annually. Both Charity Navigator and GuideStar give Vitamin Angels their highest marks for financial transparency. To learn more, visit: www.vitaminangels.org.

Sumba, #Indonesia, historically nicknamed “Sandalwood Island”, was once rich in sandalwood trees but now faces agricultural issues. Climate change has led to shorter rainy seasons and a 2023 locust infestation that devastated crops. Today, many of the island’s population, a third being children, struggle with poverty and food insecurity. Our partner, Sumba Integrated Development, improves childhood malnutrition by providing vitamin A and deworming to local preschools and health centers, building hope for over 3,600 children. Watch their story.

"Although it’s a relatively balanced vegetarian diet, the fungus Aflatoxin, which grows on beans and corn during storage, can cause an infection that prevents nutrient absorption." - Jennifer Hoock, Guatemala Village Health / Aldeas Sanas de Guatemala (GVH) Founder. Since most homes in Sierra de Santa Cruz, #Guatemala are located in remote areas without access to electricity, villages don't have the option to refrigerate their healthier, whole foods. Their diet consists primarily of corn, rice, beans, and vegetables. To help fill the dietary gaps for pregnant women and address childhood #malnutrition, we supply GVH with #VitaminA, #deworming, and #MMS. Explore our impact: https://bit.ly/4f52Tug

Scaling evidence-based nutrition interventions can significantly impact the health of women and children. Decades of research prove that multiple micronutrient supplements (#MMS) enhance women’s nutrition during pregnancy. Over 10 African countries are currently exploring MMS to improve pregnancy outcomes. Lucy Kanya, our Senior Technical Director of Africa Programs, shares her hope that this momentum will drive meaningful progress for even more women across #Africa. From supporting national governments to tailoring implementation to local contexts, she provides several key lessons to keep top of mind if we are to make that hope a reality. Read more below.
