On this day, July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring the 13 American colonies' independence from Great Britain and the formation of the United States of America. However you choose to celebrate, VitalCore wishes you a safe, happy, and joyful Independence Day!

  • Congratulations to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for receiving the Innovation Award (Large Jail) at the American Jail Association conference last week! The Detention Behavior Management Team was recognized for their efforts in managing those with serious and persistent mental health, medical and/or behavioral issues in restrictive housing. The team consists of Captain Paula Smith, CJM, Lieutenant Clayton Barth, Sergeant Caleb Posch, Sergeant Steven Terry, Health Service Administrator Ryan Fickle, Director of Nursing Meghan Day, Behavioral Health Coordinator Logan Reich, and Mental Health Practitioner Kendra Wolff. The team meets weekly to discuss Restrictive Housing, Disciplinary Detention, Medical watches, and Mental Health watches. Each team member has a role in the meetings and each profession represented is respected and valued. As a collective group, we hear each other’s concerns, difficulties, and ideas to gain clarity, safety, and unity. Our medical and mental health teams have a voice in disciplinary restrictions. Detention has a voice in the medical treatment of inmates. There are no known gaps in this system. All areas work together to achieve one goal: the safety, health, and well-being of all individuals in the facility. VitalCore is honored to collaborate with Sedgwick County!

  • May is Mental Health Awareness month. Remember to take some time for your mental health every day by practicing self-care activities such as talking with a friend or therapist, going on a walk, spending dedicated time on a hobby, meditating, or something else that helps you deal with the stress of life. What is your favorite self-care activity? Put it in the comments below.
