It's U.S. Travel Association's National Travel and Tourism Week and we’re celebrating the industry’s critical role in powering economies, communities and connections. 🗺 Our inaugural event, Taste of Tourism, kicked off this exciting week. Held at the York County Government Center, we welcomed local restaurants, farms, and attractions to showcase the profound influence of tourism in our region. Taste of Tourism provided a valuable platform for Visit York County and our vital hospitality partners to engage with key decision-makers. Together, we highlighted the remarkable contributions of tourism to our community, reinforcing its pivotal role in driving economies, fostering communities, and nurturing connections. We are excited to announce that The World Wake Association has selected York County’s SouthTown Wake Park as the 2024 USWL Southeast Regional Wakepark Championship site. The 2-day event will be held July 6-7, 2024, and bring more than 400 athletes to the area. “While SouthTown has hosted a variety of different competitions at the local and regional levels, this will be the first time we host a WWA Regional event for riders to qualify for Nationals,” said Kyle Dickman, General Manager of SouthTown Wake Park. "It will be exciting to bring riders from across the region to experience our facility and connect with our local wakeboard community.” The 2024 USWL Southeast Regional Wakepark Championship is a precursor for riders to qualify for the National Championship. Emily Wade, Senior Sales Manager at Hilton Garden Inn Rock Hill, noted that Essie's commitment to going above and beyond makes her an invaluable asset. Essie's nomination will now compete for the South Carolina Hospitality Employee of the Year Award, which will be announced at the Governor’s National Travel & Tourism Week Press Conference. This past Wednesday marked a significant occasion as we welcomed nine outstanding individuals into the York County Sports Hall of Fame at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center. This ceremony, the first since 2019, celebrated the remarkable achievements of nine athletes, coaches, and media figures who have left an indelible mark on both the world of sports and our community here in York County. Selected by the York County Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee, these inductees have demonstrated unparalleled excellence and dedication in their respective fields. It's always great to attend South Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association Annual Hospitality Day at the State House. Visit York County had some fun speaking with some of our state lawmakers on the importance of the hospitality and tourism industries!

We are proud to announce that we will be hosting the second annual Rock the Winds esports tournament with Winthrop University and Carowinds this weekend, April 13-14, 2024. The event will bring hundreds of athletes, including 20 of the country's top 50 players, to Carowinds to compete for a $10,000 prize pool. Rock the Winds aims to highlight Winthrop's nationally-ranked esports program, which has been a powerhouse since its inception in 2019. It has two national titles, one regional title, and multiple tournament appearances. In November 2023, Winthrop University opened the Winthrop Esports Center in the growing Knowledge Park hub adjacent to downtown Rock Hill. “The growth of esports and Rock the Winds presents an incredible opportunity to showcase York County’s niche sports scene and generate local economic impact through the multi-billion-dollar business of esports,” said Andy Clinton, President and CEO of Visit York County.
