Meet Diem Nguyen, a 45-year-old factory worker from Dong Nai, Vietnam. Diem is not just an expert woodworker for Chien Furniture, she's also an old friend of ours. We first met her 3 years ago during Clear Vision Workplaces (CVW) initiative at her factory, where she received her first ever pair of eyeglasses on the spot. We recently returned to her workplace for a follow-up, where Diem upgraded the power of her VisionSpring eyeglasses. With her new readers, she can continue to carve wood with ease, and more importantly, stay safe at work! It is important to remember that our vision changes as we age. That is one reason why we encourage partner factories to conduct vision screenings regularly, ensuring that all their staff can continue to see clearly. #Vietnam #Eye #Health #SocialEntrepreneurship

The summer season is in full swing – will you be protecting your eyes? We know that too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can risk our skin's health, but did you know they can damage our eyes too? The World Health Organization estimates that UV exposure causes up to 20% of cataracts worldwide. And that's not all - pollen, pollution, and many other factors can affect your eyes during the summer. Follow these simple tips to keep damage from sunlight, seasonal allergens and pollution at bay: 🕶️ Opt for sunglasses rated UV400 that block and absorb at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays, shielding your eyes from harmful levels of UV rays. 🌾 Try to stay indoors during the mid-morning and early evening, when the pollen count is usually highest. If you can't avoid it, wear glasses when you go out to block pollen or dust particles from irritating your eyes. 😶🌫️ Avoid going outdoors during peak traffic hours to avoid high levels of pollution. Exposure to contaminants can cause irritation in your eyes and increase the risk of infections. If you experience itchy, dry, or red eyes, wash them gently with clean water and cover them with a cool towel. #Eye #Health #Summer

Approximately 21 million people in Vietnam need eyeglasses but do not have access to them, impacting their ability to earn, learn, and stay safe. We want to thank the KILLINE Group for partnering with us as we scale our work across the country. Their provision of high-quality, affordable eyewear will accelerate our efforts in building a future where everyone in Vietnam has the eyeglasses they need. As the old proverb says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Thank you for supporting our cause. #Vietnam #Partnership #SocialEntrepreneurship

“This is a real watershed moment for this sector,” Ella Gudwin. “We’ve been banging on about it for 20 years. What’s really exciting is now there’s lots of other people in the orchestra. And we’re louder and more organised and have more consensus than we’ve ever had before.” Thank you to Anna Patton at The Progress Playbook for speaking to our CEO, Ella Gudwin, about the lack of affordable eye care in low-income countries, and the growing recognition that eyeglasses are worth focusing on. Clear vision doesn't just feel good, it increases earning power too. The recently published THRIVE randomized controlled trial in Bangladesh found that reading glasses dispensed by community health workers boosted recipients’ monthly income by an average of 33%! It also demonstrated the potential of training community members in basic eye care without relying solely on medical professionals who can be hard to access. Why is this important? By partnering with local networks, glasses are brought to the last mile of some of the most rural areas of countries where eye care was previously inaccessible. 🔗 Read the full feature: https://lnkd.in/dK5wzksU #EyeCare #EyeHealth #Community #SocialEntrepreneurship

Congratulations to the entire International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) team for hosting yet another fantastic 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE. The eye care sector keeps gaining momentum, and this year's gathering in #Mexico City – with more than 400 delegates from around the world – is a clear sign of that. Our main takeaways: 🗣 PATIENTS AND CUSTOMERS COME FIRST Achieving Universal Health Coverage – one that includes comprehensive eye care – requires a commitment to people-centered healthcare. Ella Gudwin, Eleanor Southwood, Kira Baldonado, and Tsu Shan Chambers discussed the importance of understanding the individual behind the statistics and how they better inform our efforts. They need to be heard. 💡 RESEARCH COORDINATION The entire sector is coming together, building the information and evidence for support that will unlock new resources and shape policy action. The research and learnings showcased during the rapid fire sessions cannot be understated. Thank you to Cindy Tromans, Andrew Bastawrous, Imran A. Khan, Babar Qureshi, Anthea Burnett, and many more, for sharing your valuable insights. 🤝 COLLABORATING FOR SCALE & SYSTEMS CHANGE The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Through meaningful partnerships, we will expand proven models, support governments in improving access to services, and achieve the systems change needed to reach the more than 1 billion people who don't have the eyeglasses they need. Thank you to everyone who paid the VisionSpring team a visit – especially those who took a picture at our photo booth! #2030INSIGHT #Eye #Health #SocialEntrepreneurship

We can say it's official now! VisionSpring is one of India's best NGOs to work for! Just last week, Great Place to Work® Institute (India) held their 'For All Summit' in Mumbai, where we were formally listed amongst India's top-20 NGOs thanks to our positive work culture and employee wellbeing. Congratulations to all our team members for well representing our organization and upholding our core values. There's a childhood epidemic that we know we can solve. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is affecting more people at younger ages and expected to impact five billion people by 2050. Most people who don't have access to the eyeglasses they need live in low- and middle-income countries. Our See to Learn program places vision screening camps within schools and community centers, providing quality eye care in a convenient, accessible space. To date, we have screened more than one million children in #India and provided glasses to all those who needed them. If you want to learn more on how we share the wonder of clear vision in schools across India, find the link in the comments below. #Eye #Health #SocialEntrepreneurship
