Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation was proud to host graduate students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech on August 20th at the VT-ARC National Capitol Region office in Arlington, VA. Sponsored by the Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture (CAIA), 9 graduate students and 2 faculty members finished their tour of the DMV with a visit to VT-ARC. Sithira Ratnayaka, PhD, with the support of Kate Klemic, provided the participants with a science communication training session to discuss the opportunities and strategies necessary to communicate science to wide audiences. The Next G Alliance just announced the publication of a new report on Spectrum Access Mechanisms (https://lnkd.in/eyVPkua2). The report, brought forth by the efforts of NGA's Spectrum Working Group, evaluates the range of spectrum management and access mechanisms to maximize North American opportunities for the 6G future. Focusing on promoting effective and efficient spectrum use, the report explores opportunities across unlicensed, shared, and exclusively licensed spectrum. This report advances the NGA’s work to proactively address the inevitable spectrum issues of a Next G world. VT-ARC Decision Science Division (DSD)'s Director Dr. Maegen Nix and project manager Natalie Wells held an interactive plenary session at the International Test & Evaluation Association (ITEA) MDO Continuum: Testing, Experimentation, and Training Workshop on July 18th focused on reimagining T&E through the team's Joint Test Concept (JTC). DSD has spent the past two years supporting the development of the JTC, cultivating a diverse community of interest across the defense ecosystem to inform creative solutions to innovate surrounding T&E practices. This interactive session gathered vital community input to the forthcoming JTC Implementation Roadmap, which will chart a way forward for bringing JTC into practice. Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation's Decision Science Division (DSD), led by Dr. Maegen Nix, hosted over 40 experts from the Department of Defense Test & Evaluation (T&E), operational, and research communities for the FY24 Joint Test Concept (JTC) Workshop 2 – T&E Simulation. The June 5, 2024, event served as the second workshop in a series of three design-based collaborations. DSD developed and executed a decision-making simulation that challenged participants to unlock their intellectual capacity and tackle a complex operational scenario, applying and assessing the JTC reference architecture concepts created from pervious workshops. Utilizing dynamic and fast-past activities, participants found innovative solutions while defining and employing emerging JTC best practices. The 5G Security Test Bed (STB), affiliated with CTIA, recently released a new report on security in 5G network slicing. Their recent test and validation of several network slicing security scenarios has led to the development of enhanced wireless network security, strengthening the 5G network slicing 3GPP standard. VT-ARC is proud to be entrusted with hosting and operating the 5G STB at its Wireless Systems Applied Research & Development (WiSARD) Lab in Arlington, VA, helping to enhance the wireless security ecosystem and ensure the continued rollout of secure 5G networks. The wireless industry’s 5G Security Test Bed released its latest report on 5G network slicing. Its tests led to the development of enhanced wireless network security and user data protections, strengthening 3GPP standards for 5G network slicing. This testing demonstrates the #5G Security Test Bed’s value as a platform for investigating and validating potential vulnerability scenarios in real-world conditions, providing validation of use cases that had previously been discussed only in theory.
