About us

Founded in 1977, Violence Free Colorado is our state’s domestic violence coalition. We work with hundreds of organizations and individuals in local communities across the state to prevent and end relationship violence and support those affected by relationship abuse. We build the capacity of a diverse network of domestic violence and other community-based programs across Colorado to help them effectively assist survivors of relationship violence and their families. Our goal is to improve individual and community health and well-being through statewide visionary advocacy and social change efforts, supporting our members, and informing the public.

  • We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who participated in the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk on October 1st. Your presence and support are essential in bringing awareness to this matter and the continued support to survivors. By walking together, we not only raised awareness about DV but also sent a powerful message of hope, unity, and commitment to ending domestic violence in our community. Your involvement helps amplify the voices of survivors and fuels the fight for safer homes and relationships for everyone. Whether you walked, donated, or volunteered your time, your contribution is making a lasting difference. Thank you for standing with us, and for continuing to support survivors. #DVAM #walkforsurvivors #onemileclosertohope @violencefreeco @rose_andom_center @latina_safehouse_co

  • Hundreds marched to raise awareness for domestic violence and advocate for Prop KK, a proposed excise tax on firearm and ammunition sales which would fund abuse treatment, veterans health funding and more before gathering at the Denver City and County Building for speeches on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024. Proponents of Prop KK say funding for victims through the federal Victims of Crimes Act (VOCA) has been slashed in half since 2018 and that 1033 Coloradans died from firearms in 2022. https://lnkd.in/ewpWc6dK

NNEDV is proud to endorse the Skills Against Violence Act, introduced by Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32) and Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13), to support skills training and workforce development for survivors of gender-based violence, including domestic violence. In addition to causing serious physical and emotional harm, survivors of domestic violence experience a significant economic impact with survivors losing 8 days of paid work, costing over $8.3 billion per year. Further, survivors may be subject to financial abuse, including restricted access to income or information about their finances. The Skills Against Violence Act would create a federal grant program for eligible non-profits and government entities to support gender-based violence survivor workforce development. This includes skills training and advising to ensure survivors can secure employment and financial independence. Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/ejcjwEWq

  • "As a survivor of dating violence, I know firsthand the invaluable role that advocates play in prevention and intervention services. I have spent the last 10 years advocating on behalf of survivors, crime victims and advocates through my roles at Esperanza United and the National Center for Victims of Crime. I'm so humbled and thrilled to bring my experience, expertise and commitment to public service to the Board of Directors and the great state of Colorado.” Dr. Olivia Garcia (Hoppe) Esperanza United #VFC #boardofdirectors #dvawareness @esperanzaunited Esperanza United

  • Violence Free Colorado invites 2SLGBTQIA advocates to join a new monthly space, led and facilitated by queer staff. The Queer Collaborative aims to be a supportive environment for advocates to connect, share ideas, and build community across the state. As we begin, participants will have the opportunity to co-create the group’s goals, shaping it into a space that reflects our collective needs, desires, and strengths. Whether you’re seeking support in the workplace, skill-building for working with queer survivors, or just looking to connect with peers, we want you to help guide the journey. The group will also serve as a launching pad to share opportunities to bring 2SLGBTQIA communities together throughout Colorado in a variety of ways. We’ll meet via Zoom on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come as you are to share experiences and help create a space of mutual support! For more information or to join, please contact [email protected] #VFC #Cohort #Queercohort #QueerCollaborative
