Tristan and Clément, twin brothers from the Basque Country in France, are passionate about running and exploring new places. They've always dreamed of running across an island. That's when they decided to run the length of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, in just 2 days with the Condor 3, our running shoe. They ran over 80 kilometers on diverse fields, including roads, desert, and volcanic landscapes. Their journey took them from the northern town of Orzola, to the southern beach of Playa de Papagayo, passing through several villages along the way. 80km. 2 twin brothers. 1 movie. "Can we repair the future?" Last Tuesday, VEJA and The The Good Goods hosted a conference at VEJA's headquarters in Paris, gathering 6 speakers and more than 350 attendees. They explored the need to rethink our relationship with objects and clothing, highlighting the importance of changing our consumption habits by choosing repair over purchasing new items. We had the opportunity to welcome guest speakers, each offering their own practical expertise: Stephanie Calvino, Founder of anti_fashion_project; Maud Sarda, Co-founder of Label Emmaüs; Antoinette Fine (Dodin), Founder of TILLI - JOIN the cycle !; David Bourguignon, Project Lead at Repair Café France; and VEJA’s co-founder, SEBASTIEN KOPP. Sébastien Kopp shared the VEJA story and the key moment that inspired the repair project. "Repairing is a way to extend the life of a product. Repairing also means stepping away from consumerism, moving beyond the obsession with newness, breaking free from the cycle of overconsumption that drives us towards a destructive path." Since 2020, VEJA has offered repair services in some VEJA stores. Today, VEJA operates 8 cobbler stations in cities like Paris, New York, London, and Berlin, repairing over 30,000 pairs of shoes. In 2024, VEJA took it a step further and launched the VEJA General Store, in Paris, a space dedicated exclusively to shoe repairs and clothing alterations. After all the great discussions and exchanges, we wrapped up the evening with a live repair demo and an captivating concert by Curieux Orchestre. Thank you to Victoire Satto for leading the conversation, and to all our guests for their participation! #VEJA #sneakers #conference #event #repair

"At first I thought I was fighting to save rubber trees, then I thought I was fighting to save the Amazon rainforest. Now I realize I am fighting for humanity." — Chico Mendes Chico Mendes was a Brazilian rubber tapper, union leader, and environmentalist who dedicated his life to preserving the Amazon rainforest and advocating for the rights of its inhabitants.  Rubber tappers also called seringueiros, traditionally bleed rubber trees to collect rubber. They use a technique that doesn't harm the trees and protects the Amazonian rainforest. Born in Xapuri, Acre, Brazil, in 1944, he began working as a rubber tapper at the age of 9.  Schools were frequently forbidden on and near plantations; the owners did not want the workers to be able to read. For this reason, Mendes did not learn to read until he was 18 years old, when he asked for help interpreting his bills. Despite the lack of formal education, he developed a strong sense of social justice and environmental consciousness.  In the 1970s, Mendes emerged as a leader among the seringueiros. He founded the Xapuri Rural Workers Union and played an important role in establishing the National Council of Rubber Tappers in the mid-1980s. Chico Mendes' activism focused on protecting the rainforest from deforestation and promoting viable livelihoods for the seringueiros. He organized non-violent protests to block the destruction of the forest and advocated for the creation of extractive reserves where the seringueiros could manage the forest resources responsibly. His work gained international recognition, and he became a symbol of the fight against deforestation and the protection of indigenous rights. However, his activism also made him a target for powerful landowners and ranchers who wanted to exploit the Amazon for cattle ranching and other forms of development. On December 22, 1988, Chico Mendes was assassinated at his home in Xapuri. Since 2004, we work closely with rubber tappers of the Chico Mendes reserve, led by Raimundo Mendes, Chico Mendes' friend. He participated in the whole movement for land rights in the 80s, with Chico Mendes and his companions.  VEJA cared to valorize this ancestral work using between 20 to 40% of Amazonian rubber for all our sneaker soles. #VEJA #sneakers #chicomendes #amazonianforest

From September 11th to 15th, the Climax Festival took place in Darwin, Bordeaux. It's an event dedicated to discuss topics like environmental protection and preserving ecosystems worldwide. Each year, the festival offers a diverse program with speakers, performances and more, all centered around a specific theme. While it's important to talk about climate change, it's even more important to take action. To that end, we organized a run with 50 participants who wore our Condor 3, our bio-based running shoe. The runners were eager to try out the Condor 3 and shared common values throughout the run. #VEJA #sneakers #climaxfestival #running DARWIN EVOLUTION

Join us for a special book signing at the Mulberry VEJA Store, New York on September 25th, with Cameron Russell, former model, activist, and author of "How to Make Herself Agreeable to Everyone". She will be with Alyssa Hardy, journalist for Teen Vogue and author of "Worn Out: How Our Clothes Cover Up Fashion's Sins," to discuss the fashion industry, body image, and the pressures faced by women. Cameron Russell is a model who spent the last 20 years working for brands like Prada, Calvin Klein, Victoria’s Secret, H&M, Vogue and Elle.  Despite her successful modeling career, she cared to share her experiences and shed light on the less glamorous aspects of the industry. That's when she began her speaking and writing career: her keynotes often center around unfair perceptions of beauty standards in society. In her TED Talk, with over 30 million views, she states that image is powerful but also superficial. Cameron Russell's perspective comes from having personally benefited from these standards in her own career. She also released a memoir, where she talks about her career in modeling, revealing the industry's dark side and challenging societal expectations of women. RSVP here for the book signing: #VEJA #sneakers #ClimateWeek #fashion #booklaunch #CameronRussell
