Select broadcasters, cable providers and streamers around the world plan to deliver 4K coverage and even some experimental 8K images of the Paris Olympics. But new research from Variety Intelligence Platform and CivicScience suggests there may not be much demand for higher-resolution coverage at these Games — or for much else on TV.

Even this far ahead of the 2025 Grammys, one thing can be said with virtually no doubt: It won’t be a male artist picking up the album of the year trophy. The bigger question is whether a man has a shot at even getting nominated among the eight slots open. Three albums have been viewed as locks for months: Taylor Swift‘s “The Tortured Poets Department,” Beyoncé‘s “Cowboy Carter” and Billie Eilish‘s “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” And we may just have reached a fourth with Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Also in the conversation are Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short N’ Sweet” and Charli XCX's "Brat." Should a shutout turn out to be the case, it would mark a first in Grammy history — although it came close to happening at the 2024 Grammys when Jon Batiste was the only male artist nominated in the album of the year category. "The laughs are a given, but not the misty-eyed reaction to the final minutes of #DeadpoolandWolverine, which is by far the most fan-service sequel released under the Marvel banner — and that’s saying something, since the comic book empire panders even harder to its flock than the faith-based industry does. In the past, such shameless give-folks-what-they-want-ism might have been a bad thing, but here, it serves as a welcome corrective to the superhero overload of the past 15 years. Now that the Disney-backed Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be running on fumes, the entire genre could use a shake-up, and this jester-like character is just the guy to do it," writes Variety's Peter Debruge.
