New research from Value Add reveals that private equity #buyout and #exit activities react differently to changes in interest rates. Buyout activity actually moves in the same direction as rates (i.e. decline as rates fall), while exits have a negative correlation (i.e. increase as rates fall). The findings suggest that #PE-backed exits are sensitive to interest rate changes, while buyouts are likely more influenced by other factors such as #valuations, economic growth, and dry powder.
